Same for me, although I prefer the clear-sight of the PK-A for the 3.4x zoom. But then I never go above 4x zoom in ANY weapon, even a sniper rifle. For close-range, it's a holographic as soon as I unlock it.

 

I'm much the same. Exception is my JNG-90. That pretty much always has 6 or 12x on there, simply because I tend to engage at such massive ranges with that thing, everything else gets Holo, RDS or sometimes THermal, because I like the Thermal.

 

You mean IRNV. It's not the same as thermal.

I'm actually dreading doing the L96 assignment to get a 350m headshot. I'm going to have to deploy a long-range scope for that. The second I get it though, I'm switching back. Hate bloody camping snipers.

 

I would assume that's because you play hardcore and a hit anywhere will get a kill, much easier to get quick scope kills with the low magnification scopes. 7-8x scopes are nice for slightly bigger maps where accuracy (headshots) are a must for a garunteed kill.

You'll notice I have an high amount of headshots compared to my kills (1/3 - with all kits) and that's because I don't count sniping without hitting people in the face as proper sniping.

 

Just go onto a conquest large Operation Firestorm and you're sorted. Did it during lunch, ended up with a 914m headshot. 3 other kills would have broken the 1K mark, but they were body shots. Don't know why, but been getting horrendous lag today (300-850), so making it a little trickier. Still, it's done now.

My concern is taking down aircraft with AT launchers.

 

The VAL is still my nr.1 weapon!
It takes a bit to get used to it but once u do nothing can stand your way
Personally I've mainly used it long range as hip firing sucks pretty bad

Eh? There's all kinds of maps on the server each night now, TDM, CQ small, Rush etc etc..

 

Easy. Low-flying helos with RPG/SMAW, or alternatively, SOFLAM the *******s and Javelin their ass. Works very well if you have a vehicle laser-painting everything.

 

When it comes to HC/Normal, I'm possibly the most balanced person on these forums. I play both daily. I still don't go above 4x on normal, regardless. I just don't like pitching a tent in ANY mode, that's all.

Amused by this very much, I am. It is lousy at what the F2000 is great at. You have to be ads and still to use it, strafing is a big no no for the AS VAL.

Im new to BF3 - only lvl 22 - and have been using the AEK-971, but I just can't get used to anything else but the iron sights with it! (and other assualt rifles).

I think this might be to do with the last FPS i played being CS 1.6

Is there any major downside to me not using a scope? I feel like im missing out

 

Better accuracy at range, sometimes clearer sights. Some weapons I can get on really well with the ironsights too, others are just so obscuring of everything (FAMAS.) That they need at least an RDS to make them usable.

Also shiny effects, like IRNV, and sometimes better zoom, (3.4x and such.) There's not any real difference.

Only issue with scopes, especially for snipers; Use one scope and stick to it. I find, personally, if I keep switching between 6 & 12x scopes; I misjudge the bullet drop. Either use 6 or 12.

I've already gotten too used to twelve, it's quite nice to see the angry expression on someone's face as you punch a hole in it, but it's a bitch to use at sub-115M

 

Also, even the 'normal' sights like the red-dot and kobra give you a very small magnification that gives a little bit more accuracy at short and medium range. Plus you usually get an accuracy bonus.

 

Anyone else been getting lag spikes the last day or so?

Mine is (and many others on my friends list) jumping from normal (52) up to anything as far as 1,000. Doing my nut in.
