I think I have had my last visit to Gizmodo.com, the new design is just so infuriatingly stupid and not at all intuitive. I hate it
Yup I noticed it yesterday, I wont be using the site anymore. Its a shame because I used to love it, but it's juts such a hassle navigating now, it's ten times slower and theres more in your face ads. Eurgh.
Didn't really use Gizmodo but I use Lifehacker quite a lot and I have to agree. I liked the old format. It was really easy to skim through for any titles that grabbed your attention. However, now you get one extract from their latest article taking up most of the page with some odd little separately scrolling column on the right. I might just stick to using their mobile site...
Something to do with AOL's buyout of Huffington Post, perhaps? Definitely does look and feel terrible.
Agreed. Its horrible. Its been on jalopnik for quite a while... i wasn't looking forward to it coming to LH and giz. On the plus side, you can go to the 'classic' view (button to the right of the lifehacker/Gizmodo heading). It still isn't a touch on the old site, but it makes it bearable :/ Also the background has just changed to black (as of the last 30min), which makes it much better somehow. The keyboard navigation is actually not bad though...
Kotaku have changed as well as all the sites Gawker media own, if you put Classic at the end of the url it looks better http://gizmodo.com/#!classic http://lifehacker.com/#!classic http://kotaku.com/#!classic
Was on Kotaku for the first time yesterday and couldnt for the life of me work out how to use the new layout, itll be classic all the way. I wonder is it just to get some attention for awhile
Engadget, Gizmodo and Anandtech new homepage designs are all horrible. why do they insist on having huge text and large pictures? is it so hard to get Americans to read? Bit-tech's re-design, on the other hand, is brilliant! more content on front page, with suitably sized pictures.
Thanks for that, +rep! That's because Bit-tech was re-designed by people who actually browse Bit-tech, and look at it on a regular basis, not statistics-analysing tards. The only way a web page could ever be made like that, is if they did a survey and saw "60% of people say font too small", the got sarcastic, and up the font size to stupid. Gonna try the !classic layout for a bit, but think I'm +1 to the never view gizmodo again fanclub
I have found a solution If you go to http://uk.lifehacker.com http://uk.gizmodo.com etc You get the old layout (not the classic view, the actual old layout)
Yes discovered that the other day as well it's good to have it back the way it was I think they will change their sites again soon the redesign is not going down well If it aint broke don't fix it
Yea, I have to agree. I used to go to Gizmodo/io9/Kotaku/Lifehacker fairly often, but the new layout has been pissing me off royally, especially with how slow it is.
you can switch it to "blog view" which is somewhat similar to the old style. If it ain't broke then don't freakin' redesign it.
Hate to admit this, but when browsing the old style UK sites now, i miss having all the articles in the side bar from the new blog view. The new interface is still cluttered and slow and nasty, but there is at least one good thing in it.
I use Google Reader most of the time, so I've managed to (mostly) avoid the new Gawker layout. Must say, I agree with Tycho.
The new layouts have rendered the pages unreadable with the "view on website" option on the iOS app I use to view tech blogs, it sucks.
