Anyone playing this? Never played an MMO before, but too tempted by the free online play i was so bought it. Looks pretty decent, although playing without a mouse on a lappy (touchpad) is painful to say the least.
The game looks pretty good, although the world detail is minimal at best but i suppose that's understandable.
Ive got no idea what the stuff is in it or how to interact with other players and stuff, still a level 1 elementalist cause she was the hottest character i could make. Kinda pissed i couldnt use my "Kebab or Shag?" gametag so had to end up with "Kebab or Snag" which is close enough.

Im tempted by this too. Never played a game of this type either, and would never pay monthly for WOW etc, so this does look interesting.
Online RPGs have never really appealed to me before, but i kind of get the feeling im missing out on something with all the talk of recent titles.

Is it much fun then? Cant be bothered with anything too time consuming or serious, but if its a good laugh i might just have to give it a go.

Well i only played a half hour and only killed 5 monsters. It's not much fun right now but i assume once i get into it itll be more interesting. I was quite disappointed by the lack of Character choice options (especially dress) and name choices (it has to be name and surname) so you cant have some snappy single word name.
Id rather have been a Mesmer but the Elementalist was a hotter avater model so i went with that instead.

Mmm, I'm tempted to deviate from my (fairly) well worn FPS path, mainly because of the lack of monthly fee. When I get Broadband working, anyway...

I'm pretty interested by this game. Having never really been in RPGs or mmorg's how easy is it for a newbie such as myself to get into?

Well i played another half hour this morning and it was dead on the server which i went to (afai can tell you cant choose where to go) which was strangely nice for a newbie. I managed to work out how to buy a shield from the merchant then i went off and killed a few things. Ill go exploring when i have a lot more time i think. I dont think itll be too hard to pick up, although im having a problem with spells atm - dunno how to direct them and im not sure what to do with some of the things i pick up that go "energy +4" or whatever, but ill work it out in time.

    edit: say hi:

ahh yes, guild wars... this is gonna be the reason i fail by exams. I'm spending far too much time on this. and from what i hear, there is 100 hours worth of primary quests :worried:

edit: excelent game btw.... dont be fooled by the size of the map when u start... thats just the training area

    sorry for double post
you can select the server, when your in a town (ascalon city, monastery etc) there should be a drop down menu in the top left to select a server, using the map you can also warp from town to town.

The best way to direct spells is to use c to select the closest enemy or use tab to switch between enemies, i find clicking too slow... learn to use the keyboard rather than the mouse, its alot faster and the mouse becomes virtualy useless in battles later on

energy +4 simply adds 4 energy to you maximum energy, ie that blue bar. Energy is used up when you use skills

I heard it's monotonous, skill-less and boring :s Sorry guys. Sticking with WoW.

(and yes, I have played it)

TG: I worked out how to change districts this afternoon from the drop down menu :D And ive also learn some powerful monk spells of healing and uber-kill which takes a while to cast. Unfortunately they arent as visually spectacular as FF games which was the whole point of me choosing a spell-casting guild.
I like the ability to flick between districts and towns at a whim instead of either paying or actually running between towns. I think i'd have given up if i actually had to physically move between towns.

However, Im getting that feeling acron. After another hours play today ive hit level 3 and it's just the same old ****, with a few new spells. I find stuff, i sell it, i go do a "mission" which feels like a soulless task and i progress a little more. Im not sure if i dont understand the mission system very well or something but the whole "getting a mission and actually knowing how far you've progressed in it" doesnt feel well executed imo. Also, i find myself just pressing 1 todo the flame spell constantly. As long as i take on 1 enemy at a time i virtually cant loose, until the server ****s up and my life goes from 140 to 16 cause the server has had 3 progressive hits but my avatar is hanging in space.

Another thing - outside of towns you dont see anyone?!

Atm, im not fussed - the mere glimses of "oo something new to play with" is overwhelmed by the continual nagging repetativeness.

the way it work is that outside the towns, ur in ur own world, this avoids other players camping in all the best places and alows for more flexibility with missions, to get other people outside the towns you need to build a party by talking to people, clicking them and clicking the little green + next to their name on the party screen.

at the moment your still in the training stages and not in the 'real' game. once youve got used to the controls and done most of the missions there, u'll get the option of joining the academy and u'll be taken to the real game... with a huge world map and alot more variety (and alot more complicated battles)

edit: the main idea is that its online and ur encouraged to join guilds and make friends to go on quests with. at the moment all ur doing is going around training, getting ur levels up and learning some new spells

edit2: by the sounds of things ur an elementalist/monk. go try find some more elementalists and monks and complete their tasks, u'll get alot more skills and spells. theres aprox 150 skills available to each character (not many to get in the training bit though)

I'm currently a Lvl 8 Ranger / Mesmer (Blade Mrk, if anyone wants to add me to their friends list :thumb: )
I'm quite enjoying it, although I think I've only got one more quest to finish in the training mode part - finding the perfect present for the guard outside Ascalon.
It's a bit of a pain that equipment you've dyed is classed as customised for your character so you can't sell it though.

Also heard that is's a "run around and kill stuff for exp and then chose a new skill when you level up" game, but I'd say that WoW if almoast the same thing! Im thinking about going back to good old Everquest or maybe UO

Save dyes! They are work 140+ gd on the "outside". Also, get as much cash as you can to buy armour when you get out.

It is a run around and kill stuff, yea. But just running around and killing stuff levels you up extremely slowly so you have to do missions.

Currently level 9 with about 300xp off lvl10.

Kebab or Snag - add meh.

Yeah Ive been addicted to this game for the past couple of days, having never played a single MMORPG in my life I kind of learned this one relatively fast. Im actually going to start a new character probably later today, have been planning out a Ranger with Necro skill, or a Ranger with monk skills but I really don't know yet. Besides that Im currently looking for a guild to have my ranger join, so if anyone would be interested in recruiting me you can pm me with questions or to get my screen name.

Im planning on sticking with this game for awhile since its free and Im currently trying to save money for a new mobo, cpu and ram for my computer.

BTW, did anyone check out www.guildwars.com and watch the videos for the upcomming "expansion" for GW...it looks awesome as hell, those worms are sick looking.
