Is anyone else sick of trying to find good tech recommendations online and every link in google being either: a) a bot generated comparison article chipset example b) a round-up of competing products where every single one is recommended (i.e. the subtitle on every item says its the "best" at something) headset example cases example I really miss a good quality round-up with clear recommendations like we used to get here or in CustomPC.
Yep, all click baity stuff with no substance really is depressing. There's a couple of tech items I'm interested in and all the reviews/recommendations are so flimsy. I'll have to bother the good people on here for help when I get nearer needing them.
It's all weasel words, designed to please everyone. To be fair, different cases and headsets fit different people. There isn't one size fits all. The auto-generated comparison could be useful if you just want to know the differences between the two, again, you'll have to make the judgement based on your needs.
I think reviews have mostly moved on from "this is absolutely the best one and you shouldn't buy any of the others" because so much down to personal taste and preference, budget, use case. There's also often very little meaningful difference between all the models, it's not often you get something that just bad, but it does happen. Even with CPU coolers, you can have all your data and your charts and one may technically be determined as "the best", but they all do the job, more or less, and some people might chose looks over performance, or price before looks and performance. There's also so many variables that can affect their performance. For instance, I'd rather a pureloop 360 than a capellix 420, even though the 420 performs best. There's just too much going on with that 420.
I appreciate the point on cooling these days. I suppose my frustrations started last year trying to replace my ancient corsair HS1A headset. I got the latest budget corsair offering, the HS35, and i couldnt believe how bad it was. Audio quality of the microphone in particular. So I returned it and went down the Amazon black label route and got some super highly rated non-brand headset that was all lights and gimmicks and it wasnt any better than the corsair. I then spent a significant amount of time trying to research but all the results on google gave me nothing clear. It seemed to be the same regurgitated crap. All I wanted was a good quality wired headset and it took me weeks to narrow it down. In the end I went for the corsair HS70 Bluetooth as it can be used wired, usb or bluetooth and the reviews were mostly glowing. (And i'm happy with that choice!)
@modd1uk has been trying to find something to replace his old 1500 and he tried the Arctis 7 and some new corsair virtuoso. Mics on both sounded naff, Arctis sounded like he was in the bathroom (though he might well have been ), and the new corsairs sounded muddy. Don't think he liked the sound on the Arctis, and the corsair while better was still worse than his old ones. I remember trying the HyperX Cloud Alphas I think they were called when my Clouds died, and the sound was worse. Luckily the cable was loose so I returned them and bought the Cloud 2. Dunno what I'll go to next when these break.
I totally get the frustrations and trepidations of trying to make sure you buy the "right" thing, especially with the amount of money likely being laid down. I'm still on my original hyperx clouds and i'm dreading them dying. I had to bin the leather ear cushions as is was coming off and getting stuck on my ears, the headband has gone too. Luckily they came with a second set of ear pads that I luckily still had and could find. I'm testing something now and I don't like it. There's nothing wrong with it, it functions perfectly well, but it doesn't suit me, but there are very, very few of these that do, so the review is going to be difficult.
I decided to have a quick search online, I knew the Cloud was the same as a QPad, which was based on something else IIRC (thought it was a beyerdynamic set, but it seems it might have been a takstar pro 80) and I noticed that while the qpad qh85 are not in stock on amazon they do have a qpad qh 92 that looks very similar. If you want to have a look https://www.amazon.co.uk/QPAD-QH-92-Stereo-Gaming-Headset/dp/B07TWXJ1TP/ Edit: video from qpad, getting some sort of gaming vibes off the music!
They look absolutely identical to the clouds. I had dug out the original bit article that I'd seen them reviewed in and think they said it was q90. Thought I would track down some qpads of some sort or another. Thank you very much for saving me the hassle Music sounded a bit 'The Rock' ish to me, general sir.
I've pretty much given up on 'tech review' websites. Unless they're veryspecialist/nerdy it's just the same products with the same copy pasted feature list reviews. The exceptions are here (duh) and Rtings, who are suitably nerdy about their audio gear reviews. Plenty of Youtubers around the offer decently thought out reviewss though. IIRC the actual headphones of the Cloud and Cloud II are identical, it's the cable and the USB Dac/dongle thingy that's different. If you like them, why not just get another pair as/when? I really liked my set of OG clouds, but I fell down the audio hole and have several other sets of headphones now.
I was thinking CnC or maybe Revenge of the Titans or one of the other Titan games. Scanning some more of the QPad site, I came across this, though I can only see hte 700s on their site. Again slightly more different, but it might be worth a look. I await the bit tech review of 20 different qpad headsets That is correct. The clouds have 2 3.5m jacks connecting to a control box that then has a cable that has 2 further 3.5m jacks. The cloud 2s have a single 3.5m is it 3/4 pole combined headphone/mic jack that plugs into a different control box with "7.1 surround" and runs off to a USB connector. The mic might be a bit different, the fluffy bit is a different shape, but I'm using my Cloud 1 mic in my Cloud 2 and it's fine (even though it's missing the fluffy bit) I actually thought they'd stopped making the Cloud 2s, but it doesn't seem like they have at all. So yea that's a good shout for @The_Crapman. Seems like they've added a wireless version too.
