Download GPUZ and click the icon highlighted. This will save your vbios to wherever you save it to. Make sure you have your HD5870 highlighted and selected at the bottom, so it is the HD5870 vbios you are sending me. After that PM me for my email addy.

Ok, downloading now. As I don't own a HD5870, I won't be able to test for stability. I will set the clocks and voltage the same as the HD5970, so hopefully it will work first time.

    Cheers,

    Simon.

Ok man that is not a problem, Again thank you so much for your help.
I have a question, now that I have my bios at 950/1200 can I overclock my 5970 at 1000/1200??? if so what voltages do I need to set using MSI afterburner??
Oh I forget to tell you my 5870 is under air not water but I have set the manual fan mode and it works cold right now it is at 950/1200 using afterburner and my temps never pass 60.
and my 5970 is under water hopefully..
Do you think that i gonna be able to overclock the 5870 at 1000/1200?

The problem is, not all cards can run at 1ghz. You can up the clocks in CCC overdrive a bit more to push it. but I find most of the time 950mhz is just fast enough and is stable.

You will need to rename the vbios or you can use the one that I uploaded.

So the command would look like

    atiflash -p (0.1.2) Vbios.bin -f

    (0.1.2) is all dependent on where your HD5870 is in your system. Use atiflash -i command in dos to find out. I think it will be 2. If so your command will be;

    atiflash -p 2 Vbios.bin -f

    Cheers,

    Simon.

But if I try that do I need to raise the Voltg?

Just see how far it will go (Should be fine upto 990mhz). But from experience you will be needing at least 1.25-1.35v vcore for 1000mhz, and then I can't guarantee stability. Try using afterburner and set the voltage to 1.3v on all 3 GPU's and then test Vantage and some demanding games on it. If its stable for you, then I will add the clocks for you. But it won't be tonight as I'm now off to work in 10 mins.

    Cheers,

    Simon

    Hello Simon

Thanks for the reply and insight with the vbios's.
Im new to this and you just cleared a few things up for me.
    Greatly appreciated. :)

    Why flash my vbios?
I was having issues with overclocking (memory) and did not have access to the FAN Slider in MIS Afterburner. Read many threads and updating your vbios was recommended.

    Why disable Catalyst AI?
Some of my older games were getting micro stutters, disabling AI fixed my problem.
Also found out later that drivers play a large part in this.

Hope I did not come across negative with my questions. It was not intended :(

This is an awesome thread.

Disabling Catalyst AI prevents games from using multiple GPUs; it essentially forces games to run on a single GPU, despite CrossfireX being enabled.

So you're microstuttering is related to Crossfire.

Hi all. Yes this is a good thread. i`v also been having problems with a saphire HD5970 2gb, which i fitted a XSPC waterblock.
Card runs fine in games, but sometimes crashes or driver becomes unstable in windows.
Why is it so hard to find these updates on saphires or AMD`s website ?? they should know what problems people have been having. I have filed a ticket with Saphire, and the technicians there seem to be Oblivious about the problem. ??
    Its very worrying.
    Thanks
    Rich

Hey, have flashed to vbios (HD5970 950/1200). But when I stress my card in Furmark like 2 minutes, stop the driver to respond. I have water cooling on the card so temprature on the card is good. Feels like the card needs a little more power?

    What do you think?

This can be down to a lot of things.
-Your water block is not installed properly
-Your card can't take the overclock
-Your vrm temps are really high, hence causing the drivers from responding.
-Your water loop is not big enough to remove the heat

2mins using furmark is enough to overheat any card. The more demanding you make Furmark ie Resolution size, Burning mode etc, will determing how much Furmark is going to stress your GPU.
Ideally 800x600 in window, is enough to test your card for stability.

Your card should not need more than 1.2v vcore to achieve 950mhz. That voltage is stable enough for 990mhz.

    Cheers,

    Simon.
