First we had the EN7800GT DUAL, which is still the only graphics card I've ever seen which requires an external power brick...

Then we had the MARS, which crammed two GTX 285s onto one board:

More recently, the MARS II, a dual GTX 580 card produced only because the GTX 590 wasn't fast enough:

Now we've got the dual GTX 680 MARS III!

    My guess is $2000

I think the Voodoo5 needed an external power brick.

It might be a lot of money as all of the other dual cards from Asus have been.

But its gimmicks like this that keep the pc world innovative.

It's the same mentality we all have, we don't mod our PCs because we have to we do it because we can.

I like to think there are a couple of guys at Asus HQ one night getting drunk and just being like "dude check this out, I just stuck 2 full size GPUs on this bread board, quick pass me that 1200w PSU and run a pipe down from the bosses air con and let's see if we can power this biatch up!"

    Bindi?

Can you ask the people who invent these monster-cards, if it's possible to give us the power of a 560ti, but with only 100 Watts of maximum power-consumption?

That would be an awesome news actually.

If you want to bring the power DOWN, go ask Nvidia and TSMC :p

If you want to add more, come to us :cooldude:

EDIT: Actually the 680M should give you 560 Ti performance in the 100W envelope.

This is a great idea actually.

A slice of cheesecake for anybody who invents an adaptor for using laptop GPUs in a desktop. Surely it would just need to be a PCI-e card with a slot to plug the laptop GPU in, and a little bit of clever circuitry to provide outputs.

Why hasn't this been done already, and if it has, SHOW ME!
