Also, someone mentioned earlier that not all charity is fiscal based... charity can also be helping those in-need for whatever reason. Flashy cars? No... I'll stick with my Yamaha R1 thanks. Nice House? Sure... 500K a year - 90% = £50,000. Lets say we decide to have a nice house and we'll pay £10K a year for 25 years (leaving 40K per year) so thats £250K over the 25 years right? Nice house you've got there! Family? Sure can help with that. Holiday? 40K dude... It's a tonne of cash! Nice hotels included. your move.
Yeah, there's some amazing cars I'd like, SLS AMG being one, but do I need it? House is a house. Love the one I'm in atm, 3-bed semi detached. £50k, I could help my Mum out of debt after a few years (who says part of the 90% given away isn't 'charity' to her?), friends? Maybe, doubt I would though, if they truly needed it, then yeah. Holidays? Spent my life going to Cornwall, and I love it there, so I'm set. I'm not a flashy person, yeah I wear some designer clothes, but that's usually because they're a lot comfier and don't fall apart as quickly.
Ahh, SLS AMG, mmmmm and that's just one of the cars you'd like! I bet you'd like to make just a few upgrades to your house as well... and notice you've already started to talk just a little bit like me: "if they truly needed it" The people who would receive your charity, would have to be worthy of it! Just being your friends is not enough!
Haha, it's the only 'flash' car I'd like, otherwise a Mondeo will do just fine. The bit concerning friends can still be labelled under 'charity'. It doesn't have to be some company/business/hippies, or whatever category they fall under, to be considered charity, here's 2 snippets from Google Dictionary: This would still fall under the 90%. Although tbh, would I give away 90% of my earnings to charity? No. There's more worthwhile things to spend it on, trust funds etc. But I could/would happily give half if I were earning £150k+ a year. There's people/animals/cyborgs that need it far more than I do.
Can't drive, so no car. Computer? I'd want a few bits and bobs, nothing huge though-I'm fine with the one I have. Clothing? I don't often care how I look now that I don't work any more. But I'm cheap. $1000 would buy me a new wardrobe for life. I'd want a larger and more accessible house, but that's about getting chairs in and out the doors and about the house. However, we can't keep a big one, we'd never be able to clean it all. Good sized ones are going here for 30k if you look at foreclosed properties. Maybe another 20k to refit it for handicapped people. As for holidays, try traveling with an oxygen concentrator. It doesn't happen. I'd gladly give away 90+% of my income a year. It's nothing but a hindrance to happiness. I'm happiest with a good book curled up in the sun, or with my sketch pad, or a nice PC game. Playing with my son. These are simple things, but they make me supremely happy. And money won't make them better.
I can't imagine driving a Mondeo when my other car is an SLS AMG. For sure, charity is basically just giving to others in need. Exactly. It didn't take too long to go from 90% down to 50%. You know, it probably won't be long before you're making £150k+ a year, either on your own or perhaps combined with a partner. Maybe it takes a decade, maybe more, maybe less, but soon enough you'll be there, and you'll see how much of it you give away. If you're anything like me, it might be less than 1%.
