Is the lack of AA down to the game being designed for use on a console? AA needed less as the user sits about 10ft away from the screen and at 1080p its hard to distinguish?

Pretty much what I was going to say.

I'm getting fairly fed up of these console ports now. Design the damn games to run on PC first, I.E. with MSAA and then design them for consoles... that way at least we can work somewhere graphically before storylines begin going up instead of sequel of sequel sequel on a giant sequel in the sequel sector of space (this is a sequel in itself).

It's incredible just how jaggy the shadows are, we need AA for the light masks too!

Its stunning the lack of care and attention that's missing from the game. It looked like a viable purchase, but if its going to look rather pants, I'd rather not thank you. BC2 still keeps me entertained, and TF2 isn't he best game out there but it does look smooth.

Its more the fact the consoles simply arent powerful enough to run with any meaningfull amounts of AA...

The more they use AA, the more they drop the resolution below 720p to keep the frame rates up....

You can count the number of 360 or PS3 games that run at full 720p with 2xAA ore more, on two hands.....

MLAA does actually work on AMD 5000 cards, I have the option (and it does work) through the control panel. I've got a 5870.

I've always wondered about in game AA vs control panel AA. Which performs better and which looks better. I remember playing far cry 2 with my HD4870 and enabling AA in the control panel and the trees turned into what looked like some morden art where all the leaves where glued together into one green mass. Ingame AA worked fine tho and since then I've just stuck with it in games

I don't think I've ever enabled AA in any game at all. I like the jagged edges. It's a computer game; it's supposed to have jagged edges. Try an Atari 2600, you'll see what I mean ;)

i haven't noticed the jaggies particularly with the in game AA set to on... But then my monitor has an extremely tight pixel pitch which helps a hell of a lot.

Thats my point exactly. It's built for consoles and PC is an afterthought. I'm going to steer away from the game due to them being lazy.

They could at least put the effort in if they are going to sell a PC game.

All good until I read you have to turn down the shadows to normal.

Bar the jaggies (which aren't exactly a game stopper by any means) you're missing out on a great game.

How did you enable MLAA on your 5870? It's not on CCC for me with my 5770

There's a few multi-platform games out there that actually support MSAA on the Xbox version but not the PS3 version.

That's due to the on die cache used specifically for "free" low levels of AA on the xbox.

    Show FPS

Quick question guys, how do you pull up the console in Dead Space 2? Is there a command to show FPS in it?

A quick search on "Visceral engine" discovered few interviews with developers. One of them mentioned "PS360" as leading platform(typo or consoles in general?) and another guy said that other EA internal studios adopted their game engine. Apparently there are more "jaggies" on their way from EA.

Many years ago a lot of games had option to enable AA, though GPUs were generally weak to handle it even generations later. Now that we've got GPUs which can handle AA practically without performance hit you can't use it easily. How ironic...
And sadly it's another proof PCGA is completely useless.

    Oh really?
If the jaggies are really prevalent then I'll wait for this game to go to under £15 before giving it a go. I loved DS1...no jaggies!

Developers really need to get in the habit of writing a PC game and dumbing it down to console rather than writing for console and dumbing up to PC...

...and here's a yellow brick road... I wonder where it goes?
