Yeah I saw the price drop at Aria the other week. Funny how they've put it back up now the replacement is out. Welldone for getting in there quick and picking up a great cpu at an excellent price.

Apart from benchmark scores this CPU makes no difference to the 920 so those who have just bought it shouldn't feel hard done by. I still think people are being blind sided by the performance and overclock of this CPU and not paying attention to the fact that it is only a couple 100 MHz 'POTENTIAL' increase over the 920.

Seems my Q6600 is going the way of the Dodo... Still going to wait for Q4/2010, Q1/2011 for Intel's Sandybridge, or AMD's Fusion (Although I think that AMD's Fusion is like an core i3, not suited for enthusiast line of cpu's)

Yes, I'm thinking of linking one up to a H50 I have boxed here. Should be interesting.

I suspect that there is 0% difference on overclock from one of these compared to a recent 920

£195 is fantastic, be happy :thumb: You've got a great chip still. I wouldn't pay £230 tbh.

I ordered all my kit Friday (including 920), then an hour later saw mention that the 930 was being released Sunday. Requested an RMA on the 920 and have ordered a 930. £15 difference isn't so bad. Hopefully will get a nice OC with my the H50 I got. Can't wait till the rest of my kit arrives tomorrow, it's like christmas but better. ; )

The recent weakening of the £ hasn't helped matters either - dropped from 1.58USD at the start of last week to 1.49USD today for example so prices are prone to fluctuate at the moment depending on when distributors and resellers buy their stock.

What really sells us on the idea of the i7-930 though is it's improved overclocking potential. While there's no guarantee that every i7-930 will overclock as well as our test sample

Did you get it directly from Intel? That way marketing could just have "hand picked" a cpu for you.

So what is Intel's reason for bringing out this chip? As far as i can read it's made on the same process and sells for the same why make it instead of just sticking with the 920?

Everyone keeps asking why why why did they release the new cheap.

It's a refresh of the 920, that's all, move along.

The 930 has a 15% markup here in Denmark as well. Makes me think Intel felt the 920 was too cheap. :)

Does anyone know if the i7 390 has the unlocked qpi that you can switch up to 6.4gt/s, like the 920 or is it locked to 4.8gt/s.thnx

Prices on Mainland are relatively stable: lowest price at first listing (february) was about 257EUR and is now at 254EUR which is roughly 232GBP

    Edit:

Some resellers are mentioning 6.4gt/s on specific boards, but no source or verification.
