Nexxo's not putting you down or anything he just doesn't want you investing a lot of time, money and effort into something that may be unsuitable for your needs.

Although it is possible to have redundant PSUs, they're expensive and specialised and if you have two PSUs and one of them goes, the system will go down anyway.

Looking good though mate and if you can stick a mini-fridge in it it would be so cool! :)

I have to agree. Nexxo's list of stuff to think about almost makes a mini-HOWTO of things to consider before cutting anything. The tone might have seemed a little brusque, but I think he's got the chops, and deserves a listen.

That said, my last project took me 2 days, and had almost no forethought. BUT it was only cosmetic changes to the front bezel, not a ground up build.

I'm always stunned by the mods on this forum, and the willingness of people to just jump right in and TRY something, especially when they've never even picked up tools before. It's great! And often the result is stunningly good. Even our failures (and those of others) have lessons for us if we are open to learning from them.

So... mod on! Keep posting your progress, so we can all learn from your successes, and your (hopefully few and minor) failures.

EDIT: just re-read that, and it sounds like I think you've never used tools before, and are just jumping in and are bound for failure. NOT my intent. Really just intended to express my awe and amazement at the process so many on this board go thru. And wish you well on that same journey.

@ J_webmaster: The first project log posts and the thread on the Electronics forum just gave me the impression that you were forging ahead while you had not yet worked out some important details. My bad. If my post seemed a bit harsh, I apologise unreservedly.

Nexxo, I am glad that you said that you were sorry. What you said was kinda harsh. I fail to see where he mentions not knowing how to use tools, but anyways.

thanks for apolagizing. "I guess I dont need this anymore" [puts flamer away].

In his defense (directed at all).
I am sure he just wants to see what he can do with what he has or can find. some people like to spend lots of money and buy everything pre made. others like to just creat something. It dosnt matter to much "what" he or anyone is going to put into anything, it may just take some tweaking to make it fit later.

i could understand something to that degree if he or anyone else were to come on here and ask "how do you put a computer together".

I have been on and still am on many forums (since 1998) and newsgroups and see all kinds of flamming, but when a mod flames someone undeserved, it just kinda gives me neck pain. On a couple of the forums that I frequent, we often get users that come in brand new and start asking basic how to questions that can often be answered by a simple search engine or by the FAQ at the top of the Forum. Yes I am a "new" user, but I have been watching this forum for a while now, looking backwards and forwards through it.

And no I do not mean this as a flame, I am just putting my thoughts (and feelings if you wish) out there. for all the moderators and Users. I see users on here making un-needed comments also.

I love these forums, I am learning so much and my mind is flowing with many new ideas (not seen yet). I am constantly amazed of the projects.

Later yall, I am gona go look at some more posts.

my spell check is giving me issues also, sorry.

I fail to see where I mentioned him not knowing how to use tools.

Nor has this been an issue about his "recycling" an old case rather than buying a new one. I appreciate that you want to offer some support here, but if you are going to join the argument, please make sure that you know what it is actually about, and what stage it is at. In this case the misunderstanding has long since been resolved. The best thing we can do now is to get this thread back on topic, OK?

I read someting about the tools coment in here. :wallbash: and I did state that you had aplogized already (resolving the issue). I was just still fired up that something like that would be said. so I continued to type. You had managed to write a response as I was writing mine.

sorry to poke at your ribs; I will try and refrain from now on. ;-)

EDIT: I just found that it was zukworld that said the tools comment. :worried:

Dude he wasent bashing you. He was just extending his advice and experience. I totaly identify with him on the subject. But I also know sometimes you just gotta jump in and see what comes up. If it fails then chalk it up to experience. And by no means I am trying to bash you either by saying it will fail. But take it from someone who has a failed project (check voyager on signature) I was completly heart brocken when I realised it had beaten me, but somehow I just picked up the remaining bits and moved on.

All he is plainly saying is that think it out and get an idea of what you want to do then jump in and try to acomplish it.
