could those pics be any less clear? No offence, but you can't really see any detail of the faux carbon fiber.
yer your right...what a fubared mod why do i bother. cutplug. buy me a digital camera then. ill try explain better...
Ok. well as you all know for some reason. Lian Li include at the top of the front bezel some mysterious carbon fibre plactic. why do they do this? well... noone knows... I wanted to try and do something a little nicer than this... so this is what i did. firstly I removed the front bezel and unscrewed the plastic fake carbon fibre stuff. and then i measured up, and cut some wooden blocks to fit in place where the plactic was. i then measured up and cut out a level for the standoffs to fit in. ^the original standoffs in place. The standoffs i dremeled away a small area and drilled a hole in the corner, placed onto the wood and screwed in place... like so... I then did this for the top and the bottom Then i sanded the wood blocks so that the top and bottom of the front bezel was dead flat, and whiped clean. Then *althought i wanted to kill the carbon fibre look* i applied some carbon fibre film over the top - it was the only thing i could think of Next step was to measure up and cut some light gathering acrylic to form the same shape as was originally there on the top and bottom of the front bezel. i then drilled a couple of holes and bolted this into the wood. i also drilled some smaller holes and fed some LEDs through into the acrylic, i first sanded the LEDs to give a diffused light effect. now all you have to do is wait until tomorrow evening and the whole circuits will be wired up. as i said im waiting for some resistors from maplin then hopefully, fingers crossed, there will be a very nice effect in the dark. I thought some ppl might be interested as i havent seen this done before anywhere to someones Lian Li...but not many ppl seem too be taking any interest never mind i like it
arh well... was me being hopeful. i thought some ppl would give input etc well - ill light it up tomorrow...start a new post and pretend this one never happened.....
so what was the point of the mod if it looks the same again? to have the blue-lighted stuff in addition to the carbon fiber look? cool looking, nonetheless.
and Well... i can and i tryed... but cutting the spare alu i had i found it very difficult to get the edges to line up acurately... once ive cut another window i think ill give it another go. i have no spare alu at the mo. having said that... the carbon fibre doesnt show hardly at all when looking thro the plexi...im just looking forward to seee how it looks lit...it sould look poo.. lol
well as ever i have some more poor quality pics for you. this is it wired up. in the dark it looks VERY cool... but the camera doesnt do it justice... it seems to capture all the blue as a faint white... but what can ya do with a bad web cam ok... Before After In mild Darkness Pitch Black (very bad representation of mod ) I hope some of you ppl can see the possibilities now go mod and have some fun
Ok, not I understand what you were doing. I couldn't figure it out at first cause of the two pics and no description. Now that I see the process and the finnished steps.... I like it. Good use of the LED in the plexi to light the edges.
from what you say it sounds cool, would be cool if you could aquire some better pics of it thou looks cool none the less edit:: could i have said cool more times than 3 in that short post....
dude, it looks SWEET yeah you could: the word cool, is a cool style to talk cool, and extremely cool it is, as cool is a cool word with a very high cool-ness factor, which is enormeous cool with the cool dudes hehe 9 times cool, and full of crap
Changed it a little since last time. decided to ressurect the post. I decided the Carbon Fibre sucks soon after you guys said it. i argreed 100% so heres what i did... i grabbed the left overs from my window, and cut a strip the depth of the front bezel, sanded edges so they were crisp/clean, then mounted it beneath the plexi. as you can see i still dont have a digicam other changes have taken place on the case too, but to be honest, i dont feel im ready to show it all off yet till its complete, which sould be a long time.... Uni in 2 weeks :erk:
Hey thats very cool there. Just a suggestion, but the acrylic your using is just a smidge lower than the top of the rest of the case, which for some reason or other looks weird to me. Also i think it may looknice with the kind of screws that fit flush to the top of the material they are in. All in all a very nice mod.
