http://digitalurban.blogspot.com/2008/01/crysis-importing-city-models-st-pauls.html That's some crazy ambitious shiznit. These guys from the Imperial college london are aiming to harvest information from GoogleMaps, translate it into SketchUp and then rebuild the whole city of London in Crysis using the mod tools. With any luck it'll include the Tube and be available for some 64 player multiplayer, slow-paced assassination action. This is why PC games are better than console games.
wow, that is amazing! indeed, this is why 4GB is not a waste. i am sooo going to download that map and show off to my console fanboy friends. ultra high end version of MMO GTA: London anyone??
I'm going to have to say that this is going to require a monster of a computer if they are serious about making it really detailed.
Looks like Crytek have made the next best Driving Simulation, as long as they sort the driving mechanics out. Sam
Another college group did a similar project for downtown Toronto; it was named Half-Life 2: City 17. But this looks much more interactive. The kind of Grand Theft Auto we've been waiting for.
Didn't they already do this? edit - jk. Since sarcasm detectors seem to be broken by the new year spirit.
Lmao, yes... the London spin-off of the old Grand Theft Auto came to mind when I typed the earlier post.
I wish I was good at stuff like that. My town I live in would be fun to recreate. Could get the town itself and the surrounding mountains and what not. Living all of 15 minutes from the Rocky Mountains could make for some fun MP. People running around in the mountains, then take a Humvee and head back into town and maybe go to the airport and jack a plane or go to the air base and jack a Chopper or tank or something. That would be awesome.
