    Hi all,

Thanks to Bit-Tech, I just had to have an LCD (or two). So I decided to go the parallel route. While I was at it, I wrote a huge howto with lots of information and pics. You can get it here:

    http://www.myrolypoly.com/lcd_project/lcd_project.html

This is my first major contribution to the modding community, so please let me know what you think. Plus any additional information and/or feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Superb:clap:
Has to be one of the most complete parallel howto's out there! if only it was available a year ago when I first got mine. I ended up buying a serial back-pack thing.

Nice work, that's really comprehensive technical writing.

Can we add a link to your work in our LCD FAQ?

One of the best guides I have ever seen, on anything.

Most certainly the most detailed ever.

Thanks all. It took me almost a month to right this.

By all means, please feel free to link it anywhere you like.

Great timing with the guide. I was just considering binning my LCD as the software ranges from rubbish to non-existent.

    Very well written. Thanks

Nice... Thanx... I have done a parallel LCD before, and it worked with LCDdriver, but was slow and wouldn't work with one of my VFD modules... The link to Crystalfontz worked great... Thanks.

How did you get LCDdriver to work? I looked it over, but couldn't find anything about parallel LCDs. I seemed to only see port and connectivity options for serial. Am I missing somthing?

    Thanks for the info.

Sorry, i tried LCDriver 1.2 as well, and it was supposed to be supported in v2.0, but doesn't work yet, What I actually used was LCDCenter.... It works alright... Sorry about the mis-information.

Of course. I forgot all about LCDSmartie. I did try it out, and it is very complete. However, while it does have some additional features (CrystalControl is pretty basic) I felt like the increased complexity wasn't worth the added features. Also, the UI was driving me crazy. I'll have to add it to the list. Thanks for the input.

Another really good alternative to LCDSmartie (I like smartie but I like this too) is jaLCDs (Just Another LCD Software)

You can bet on it , mine is inverted , it looks like one of those Oled screens , it may be green but i like it the way it looks :D

Ill still try to change the backlight of a similar module to blue with a crazy mod to it

thats a really good guide you got there.

I had the idea for the connection you used to connect to the PCB, but never did it. Thats really well done, very professional
