    Hello all,
I want to upgrade the RAM on my laptop. It is an Acer Aspire 5315, It currently has 1GB of DDR2 533Mhz. What I want to know is do I have to put in the exact same speed of memory??

    Thanks

It might do but then does that not defeat the purpose of buying higher speed RAM?

No you don't - you can use faster memory. You won't benefit from the extra speed (the motherboard will run it at a lower frequency instead) but it may cost less (older, slower types of memory do become more expensive as their supply dries up).

Do make sure that you get DDR2 memory though (laptops almost always use smaller SO-DIMM modules as well) - DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 are not interchangeable.

on that laptop you can use only 3gb and it will only work with 1gb and 2gb in the right slots. It will not take 4gb as it will blue screen on your ass. Loved my 5315 had a 2.4gz dual core in mine with a ssd and it was great for office work
