It is simply noteworthy. Religious beliefs generally have a spiritual component to them, and spirituality is concerned with the nature of humanity and its place in the universe. Of course, you can be spiritual without the encumberments of religious garnish. I guess that is where Walle is coming from.

I agree and many people are spiritual manage to have their beliefs outside of a mainstream religion. What I have never heard is a good spiritual explanation of how / why we are here.

That's all a subjective truth and reality though isn't it? A good explanation is only valid for those who want to believe it. And because you put no stock within it, I doubt that there ever will be a good explanation.

What was the topic about again? :D

Yes Sloth gave a good explanation to why such a belief wouldn't be a contradiction, and Nexxo expanded nicely on the subject in his post.

I've never heard a good emotional explanation for the speed of light. You want to know why we're here? Start learning physics.

Which part of science says *why* we're here? (Instead of *how* we're here?)

Depending on your interpretation (as is always the case with these things), it's also "why": stuff just happened, et voilá.

True :) (I disagree with this sentiment, but it's a valid point)

To be fair, I've never heard ANY good explanation for the speed of light.

    Why are bananas?

Some questions are non sequiters. You're looking for a humanistic excuse from a system which is entirely mechanical. If you want meaning in your life, read some philosophy, just don't expect anything to ever answer a question like "why are we here", or, for that matter, "why are bananas?"
