OK guys i'm going to be making a 24-pin extension, with white wire, white mdpc sleeve and using coldzeroteam's no heatshrink trick (at least, the visible end will not have any heatshrink). I will be selling this. ATM, this is a one-off thing, but if i get some requests i might make more than 1 the extension will cost £8 inclusing shipping i'll update this thread as soon as i get supplies and make the extensions (probably some time within the next 2 weeks). Ta Alex
Is this a "look what I modded" thread or a "does anyone want to buy one of these" thread? Because if it's the latter, there's a separate subforum for that
OK guys, just bought a cheap-ass 24-pin extension from maplins, giving it some mdpc lovin' right now- maybe pics soon.
if people are interested, I will. Anyway, small problem. The cheap-sh*t 24-pin housing doesn't like having the pins reinserted. Anyone got any tips?
You could try bending the pins. Do you mean the pins won't go back in the holes, or they won't stay in the holes?
Make sure the TINY tags on the pins are facing the right way. With a cheap ass extension like that it'll be much harder as the tags are of lower quality. When it happened to me I made sure the pin was all the way back in and used a dab of superglue joining the heatshrink to the connector.
UPDATE 1 UPDATE! About 6 cables sleeved so far. Sorry for the bad image quality, taken from a galaxy tab. I'll let the pic do the talking:
Looks good so far, your heatshrink at the bottom isn't all that even though, cut it into little pieces before you put it on so you get something like this: So if you can fix your heatshrink, I'd be happy to buy some in different colours! I'll take one in white too! God isn't it nice to have someone else do it for you? Bear in mind I did it with a candle instead of a heatgun and the result is good.
Oh yeah, did you manage to get those pins back in OK? The one in my picture is a bitfenix extension from scan, some of the tags are a pain in the arse but overall it's of better quality.
the heatshrink only looks like that because the extension is bent, and this is only a prototype. the final will have the sleeve crimped with the pin, meaning no heatshrink at all. Yeah, I got the b*tchy pins back in, there were 2 tabs on the cheap crimp pins that, when being removed, bent. I bent them back with a pair of long-nose pliers. Anyway, bought supplies:
Well well, I can't wait and will be happy to buy with MDPC- X sleeving on there! I need to start ordering my sleeving from there instead of chilled pc because the weave is so much better. The truth is I love the sketches!
I'll be doing a HTPC md soon so I'll be happy to take on in black and white, or just white if "I" think it's up to scratch. I would do it myself but as it says under my name- "can't be arsed." Which means you're lucky I'm going to pay you...
Lol as you can see, ATM I only will be able to offer white but when I get things going I will offer other colours. I'm not using heatshrink for mounting- it's for a project! I must agree about the drawings from Nils- they are THE CHEESECAKE
