There's still overlap on the third picture.

 

If the slices overlappd less, they will cover the bread. No cutting required. The meat will even have a bit of an overhang, which, in my book, is necessary for ANY deluxe sandwich.

 

Nothing wrong with Overlap if all bits are covered.

It's not widely available this side of the pond hence the confusion. It also looks nothing like Italian Bologna sausage which is much more speckled with lard. It's a very north american sandwich filler.

Most of us here are aware of it as baloney from references in Garfield/The Simpsons...
