ChatGPT for code generation if used for one off scripts works pretty well. github copilot as well. I'm yet to see it work well in many other places.

The Simpsons will no longer show Homer strangling Bart on screen

Not sure how I feel about that. On one hand, fair enough. On the other, ffs really?

Good job The Simpsons finished its run on a high, around Season 13. Can you imagine if it were still going today, how far the quality would have dropped?

    It's stop-trying-to-use-LLMs-as-knowledge-engines-they-are-just-compute-hungry-autocomplete time again!

Quick bit of backstory: Humane has launched a Star Trek Comm Badge completely unique and original device called the AI Pin, which is a smartphone with no screen AI-powered wearable everything-assistant that will get you kicked out of everywhere for wearing a camera like what killed Google Glass revolutionise your life. It's $700, plus $24 a month for its dedicated cellular connection 'cos it's literally a low-end smartphone with no screen , and you can ask it questions which it'll send to OpenAI. Oh, and it has a green laser projector to beam information to your hand because having a smartphone with no screen is stupid .

    Okay, you're all caught up.

Yup: once again, a company that would very much like you to believe that LLMs can answer your every question has produced a slick promotional video in which said LLM is very, very wrong. And didn't fact-check it before publication, because they're high on their own supply.

    EDIT:
Twice in the same video, in fact:

(Another one of its selling points is you can tell it to take a photo of your food and "analyse" it for nutritional value. Which also doesn't work, apparently.)

Your problem, G, is that you're stuck in the past. You need to move with the times - this the age of neo-populism and shitty research. LLM fits the mould perfectly.

No source on this one, t'was shared as a screenshot over IRC:

This is the same problem as the whole "no countries in Africa beginning with the letter A" thing: it's ingested a joke about rm, but it doesn't know that - so it's returning the punchline as a valid response to the query.

I also had a piece in my RSS feeds this morning, which I've lost, about a handful of lawyers using LLMs to do their work (again!) and getting cases thrown out and/or fired (again!) - one of whom has now set up his own company... to deliver AI for lawyers. Amaze.

Wonder how long it'll be until there are lawyers for AI?

They already tried to make an AI lawyer, which was going pretty well... until they tried to get it to actually argue in court and actual lawyers pointed out that it would constitute the unlicensed practise of law and therefore be very, very illegal.

Funny how they were OK with it, until their own jobs were threatened.
