Couple of points the Vox article missed. But I’ll add that to the earlier post, since it’ll make more sense in context - TL;DR: it’s far worse than I thought it was.

 

A lot of those reasons sound a lot like why you would actually go through all the testing. They sound like good feedback to go with as to why further work is needed and where.

Thankfully my wife can take the pill without any side effects that are unbearable, like you we have no desire for children (we have cats instead...), but I would have no objections to taking a daily pill or even a weekly/monthly injection if that was what was needed and the side effects were in line with those typically experienced by most of the women who take it. I already take daily pills and a weekly injection for other stuff so no worries there, it would simply be a case of adding another one to the list.

 

That's exactly the point of clinical trials.

Unfortunately however "clinical trial stopped due to high risk from negative side effects" doesn't garner any headlines, whereas "trial of male birth control pill stopped because it has side effects" practically writes its own headlines. And that is the part that gets my goat: throw away all the actual real information and evidence in favour of clickbait headlines that help you sell adverts. That's not something that's unique to this particular story, but this particular story was especially galling because of the "men can't hack the side effects of birth control that women just have to put up with" spin.

Exactly. These days I take 5 tablets a day - adding another one isn't exactly a burden. Personally I'd rather not have any more emotional "dysregulation" or "disorders" than necessary, as I'm only just learning how to deal with the ones I already have! But I'd damn well give it a go if I had the chance.

►Jack the Horse Lake: In the heart of the Chippewa National Forest near Marcell is Jack the Horse Lake. In the late 1800s, loggers used iced skid roads to pull huge loads of timber out of the forest — a wet, sticky snowfall could grind the sledge to a halt. One day, a horse died pulling a load out of the woods as a blizzard was blowing in. Wanting to beat the snowstorm, a member of the crew stepped into the empty harness and helped pull the sledge to the landing. That man became “Jack the Horse,” and the lake was named after him.
