I think I've seen estimates between £1300 and £2000 for the 3090. Even at the lower end, no way is the 3080 going to be £600 cheaper. Faster outright, or just in RTX-enabled stuff?
If they've taken nvlink away from 3080, then they're holding you at cannon point for more performance.
MSRP is $1499, launches 24th Sept. $1499 currently is £1118 + VAT (223) = £1341. Of course Asus etc will inevtiably want more, so the "triple fan custom PCB all the AaaaRGB" versions will be £1500+.
If, and it's a big if, the 3070 is the same performance (not just RTX) as a 2080Ti and it's about £500 - that could be interesting. But I doubt it.
He didn't say (of course). Apparently though it does have a monstrous 5888 Cuda cores. TBH? it all sounded way, way too good to be true. He said the 3090 will replace the Titan (but I kinda heard that months ago). He's either scared about the new consoles, or, knows big Navi is going to be good. The problem with the supposed 3070 is the VRAM restriction. 8gb, IIRC. So even though it may be perfectly capable of 4k I just don't think it will have enough VRAM for the long haul. Should be cracking at lower resolutions though. I would jump on a 3080, but I just have no reason to. I just don't. Due to me messing with hobbies lots of lately the cash has started to stack up. I have just been far too busy to even look at buying anything, nor do I really want anything. I think it's my mental state, which has been deteriorating slowly. Not seen my psych since last October, got a phone app tomorrow. I was put on new meds, they were wonderful, but they were never increased over the loading doses. Any way, boring facts about myself aside? The only thing I can think that I would like to do is possibly buy a new pair of hifi speakers. And possibly an amp to power them, now that it's easier with my Tag pre amp thinger. I mean yeah, it is all very exciting and all but the promise of one new RT game (COD) doesn't really make me want to spend £600+ on another GPU I don't need.
Looking at the raw Tflops and ignoring the RT and tensor cores (which are for RT and DLSS, something lots of games do not support) the 3090 has 36 Tflops. The 3080 has 30 and the 3070 has 20. The 2080Ti has 28.5. Make of that what you will, but I call it cold light of day. Sure, the 3080 is up to 20% quicker but we already knew that. The 3070 however? yeah, nowhere near the Ti.

3070 is the most interesting just because it might slash the hell out of the second hand market so I can buy something cheap! I'm only gaming at 1080p with no plans on changing soon so a 2070 or better going cheap would be great.
Quite probably. Though I still don't like RT and this does nothing to change it. It still looks like ass, and is totally off putting. DLSS however? I have grown steadily impressed by. However, you can't assume it will be in every forthcoming game. It seems to me that Jen is basically calling a pre emptive strike on the next gen consoles, and is focusing on those (IE 4k 60). However, the 3080 which should be capable of that is more expensive than what I reckon either console will cost complete. Hence the pre emptive strike. And none of that apart from the new console excites me, because I don't game at 4k. I can't see any of my cards (hoarder) being rendered incapable of running 1440p. Which is what they all run. Again looking at the spec? the 2070 has 8gb gddr6. Exactly the same stuff on the 2080. Which I highly doubt would be capable of very high settings at 4k. Which of course it isn't meant for, but yeah. It will no doubt be a cracking 1440p card though, though again so is my 2070 and 2070 Super and I can't see this launch changing that much. Possibly into the future? by which time I will have a XBSX and not give a crap.
Jesus. Never have I been so happy to be wrong. If the rumoured performance is also true, @BeauchN was spot on - the used prices of the 2080 Ti will tank. Big time.
5120x1440 at max settings and looking for triple digit frame rates? So about 7x RTX 7090 Kinpgin under Ln2
There’s a remarkable number of brand new eBay 2080ti listings... Most of them are priced too high now
I'll wait and see the performance, prices look promising if the performance is there, a lot of focus on ray tracing and dlss faking it performance, I am most interested in its brute force performance such as that relevant to older titles and non rtx supported performance, it is time for my 1080Ti to go out to pasture, it has done well, even if it only works with 4x PCIe lanes these days after I knocked a component off the board..
