I'm about to buy a new computer.
Should I buy it with the Nvidia 7800 GT or pay extra for the new Nvidia 7900 GT?

Also, will the Nvidia 7900 GT be compatible ok with PC games released prior to March 2006?

You should pay less or at least know more for the 7900GT as it's a little cheaper than the 7800GT.

It will play all games that the 7800GT will play, but will be quicker.

So go for the 7900GT without a doubt. :)

    7800GT 110nm Core=8000+6400+700 RAM=32.0
    7800GTX 110nm Core=10320+6880+860 RAM=38.4
    7900GT 90nm Core=10800+7200+900 RAM=41.6

;) The 7900GT is preferable to the 7800GTX let alone the 7800GT, without question take the 7900GT over 7800GTX but 7800GT does represent good value for under £200. The 90nm process should allow for better o/c'ing, run cooler, require less power and be cheaper to manufacture (and hence buy). Prices on day of release were 7800GT=£188 ... 7900GT=£258 ... 7800GTX=£264

    Not so sure about that.

That has a slight core OC and a massive RAM overclock, and it's still not outperforming mine. Granted, mines also overclocked.

However... when you factor in the price, then I agree wholeheartedly... looks like the 7900 is a killer card for the cash.

May even consider a pair of those myself.

Thanks for all your replies. They have all been really helpful.
Yeah, I thought the 7900 GT would be the one to go for. Thanks again for your advice.
