Graphics Nvidia GTX 680/670/660/650/640 Specs. 45% faster than the HD7970

    Yesterday we have published the review of AMD Radeon HD 7950 graphic cards, which is a better alternative for GTX 580 at almost the same price. And now it’s time for Nvidia to have its own turn. We have got information from our sources that upcoming Nvidia Kepler GTX680 will be up to 45% faster than AMD’s present flagship, Radeon HD 7970.As the price point and the specifications of HD 7970 and HD 7950 are found to be the same as what we have published earlier, this time too, we believe that these specifications, price and release date of entire Kepler series mentioned below will hold true.

    But surprisingly reference GTX680 will have just 2GB frame buffer, even with 1GB lesser than HD 7970, Nvidia GTX680 is able to perform 45% faster. Also GTX680 boasts double the amount of stream processors compared to GTX580. We already know that the entire Kepler series will be PCI-E 3.0 compliant. For a $100 more than HD7970 you will be getting almost a 45% faster card, now you might have guessed, GTX680 is priced at $649 and will be released in April 2012. Entire Kepler series is being manufactured on TSMC’s 28nm technology. Another rumor that had spread earlier was that Nvidia will be skipping 600 series and will use 700 series for their Kepler series, but now it’s been made clear that, Nvidia is not going to skip GTX600 series. Now you can see the specifications, price point and release date of Nvidia Kepler series GPUs.

    Both AMD and Nvidia are following the same trend in maintaining the order of the series in GPUs. Like HD 7990, GTX 690 has a core clock lesser than GTX 680 and Bus width similar to GTX 670. Compared to AMD HD 7990′s price point of $ 849, GTX 690 is priced at $ 999. But comparing to the performance the GTX 690 can offer, HD 7990 is definitely over priced, and sure AMD has to reduce their prices drastically after the release of GTX 600 kepler series.

    Nvidia has a clear winner in its hands and that’s why they have commented that they had expected much more from AMD. But still we already know that AMD is preparing its revised GCN HD 8000 series graphic cards, which may be release in the latter half of this year.

    What is there source though, is it nvidia itself? since they seem to have it from nvidia itself..?

    If the spec's are true, then that would be nearly double the performance of a GTX580...But 2GB of Vram is not enough, I want 3-4GB, so I will hold off till they come out.:)

    That's true, but Nvidia card's do use the Vram much more efficiently seemingly than AMD, I'm sure there will be plenty of custom 3gb and 4gb card's eventually, just hope they do water blocks for them. either that or I'll just end up getting the equivalent of my classified HC's I think.

    Yes, but I'm pushing 2.3GB VRAM now in BF3, Crysis 2, Batman Arkham City, and games will start to get more demanding as we get closer to a new console release.

    Also, is anyone noticing the massive increase in prices for GPU's? They will soon start to price them self's out of the market, as we are still in a recession....:rolleyes:

    Bear in mind that there is no actual source for this information, just a website looking for hits... and succeeding. "Our sources tell us" is just LOL - what sources?

    We'll get reliable information in Kepler soon enough.

    Well, the spec's look right to me, nothing their is looking OTT.

    Now if the GTX680 spec's were;

    Nvidia Kepler GTX680
    1000MHz Core clock
    4 GB 6.4GHz GDDR5 Memory
    2048 Stream Processors
    768bit Bus Width
    Priced at $649
    95% faster than HD 7970

    Then I would not have bothered posting it, as 4X the stream processors is just silly, and 95% faster than a HD7970 will make you:rolleyes:

    But then if this was 2013, and the GTX780. Then I would want those spec's.

    Can always use a GPU core waterblock and add mosfet and GDDR sinks if necessary.

    Upto 45% better has disclaimer written all over it or a few select benchmarks. This was the same with the 480 iirc and now nV has lost its tesselation advantage so god knows what benchies they are using. Waiting to see hard data as the competition has been very good of late.

    Another site was saying they have no mouth and four arses.

    If the number of GPU cores shown is accurate then you can expect massive performance boost. Nvidia cores are faster than ATI ones.

    You can Indeed, but I think the cards done like that look rather ugly, I much prefer full cover waterblocks :D

    I asked about the new Nvidia card's whilst I was in Scan on Saturday and was told they are under NDA about them so couldn't say anything grrrr.

    Had to use my upgrade money for something else at the weekend which is why I bought a new CPU, and a 27" monitor instead of using my 42" TV.

    I will be getting 2 of which ever is the fastest card when I have the money, and hopefully they will have waterblocks ready in time for release as well.

    Those spec's are looking good though but I have to wonder how much electric they will use and how much heat they will produce.

    I don't like the cost of full cover. I have used before but what really annoys me is it's designed for that one GPU and won't fit anything else. When I purchased my first full cover block for what my 8800 (I think), I spent 20 mins working out why it didn't fit. XSPC told me based on the photo I sent them, an ATI full cover block had been put in the box by mistake. They were great about it though and sent correct block out same day even before I returned the ATI to them.

    I like the cooling efficiency of full cover, the look, just not the cost but let's be honest, if you're spending £400+ on a GPU, what does it matter spending an extra £90 on a full cover block. If the new Nvidia's are very powerful I will be spending more than I would normally and get one. Will sell my 2 x 560Ti and the GPU core waterblocks fitted to them.

    Maybe they have someone from Apple in the marketing team. Release a not-quite-perfect product that is still much better than before - all the fanboi's run out and buy it, then they release the proper job 3 months down and they all run out and buy it again! Double Win for Nvidia
