System Shocks 1 & 2 remade would pretty much make my life complete. I don't want new features, I just want the game exactly the same game with more polygons, better sound and a tweaked UI. And no bugs please.
Nice one. Cholo, an oldie 8-bit game, has been redone for the PC. It's strange, but atmospheric. Mercenary has been redone for the PC. Quake has had a texture revamp with the Tenebrae mod.
I wouldn't want any older games ported verbatim to new technology. I can't remember what I had for breakfast but I can jump back into a game after 5 years absence and remember every tiny detail of what's coming next, which tends to ruin the replay experience for me. But there are many old game franchises I'd like to revisited. A few: Dungeon Keeper System Shock X-Wing/Tie Fighter Mechwarrior Pretty much every variety of Jane's sim including their stillborn A-10 sim Eurofighter 2000 AvP Since Force Unleashed isn't coming to PC I guess I can put the Jedi Knight series here too.
I recently dug out my old Dungeon Keeper box set, whacked it in the computer, installed.... and nothing, nothing at all.... i was gutted! so i am going to do some searching around virtual pc after exams. That may solve some of your problems?
Diablo is what really started pc gaming, until diablo i was 100% console, back in the day's of PS1 and N64. I started about 5 years ago (when i was 12) had borrowed diablo from a friend and loved it, so for my b-day i had him buy diablo 2. The next day, i went to buy the expansion and thats how it all started. I still play today. Every few months i'll re-install, play for about 2 months, then stop. I believe i still have my lvl 83 fire sorc. with CoH, Hoto, magefists, that shield that adds 1 to skills, a soj, and some other good bits and bobs. Also got a eth dragon armour on non-ladder that i could easily get 15 HR for if i were to go play and try to trade it...
There is a new AVP in development that looks quite good. Dungeon Keeper II does the job of replacing I in my book. To be honest, I never saw what was so great about Diablo. Not enough character development and depth to be a true RPG in my book.
Would love to be able to make Syndicate work. I managed to get it running a few months ago, but then something happened and no worky :/ Ultima VII & VIII too
Neverwinter nights i would love to see revamped, also freespace 2, and system shock. oh and serious sam.
Star Wars: Episode 1: Pod Racer (hell of a title) is one of the best multiplayer racing games I've ever played, but it doesn't even work on XP, so I bet it doesn't work on Vista either. I see someone already mentioned Daggerfall, but I would go even further back and give Arena a go. And, of course, the X-COM series. SimTower and SimFarm would also be quite nice. Battle Chess of course! WarLords 2 was also a briliant game. While we're on the subject, I thought I might as well share with you the remakes/updates/hi-res patches I'm already using. Descent Freespace 2 Duke Nukem 3D Doom, Heretic, Hexen (any game with the Doomsday engine)
how feasible is it to multi-boot with DOS and win98 these days? Of coruse its not too hard to do, but if nothing works in them then its a bit pointless.
How many times do I have to say that System Shock has been remade as System Shock Portable? I think Arena is free to download now too and Serious Sam is still pretty new - the series is actually on-going still! I think Betrayal In Antara deserves a remake though, honestly.
Arena is free to download directly from Bethasda, but it's not a remake, just a free re-release. 320x240 resolution on a 19" screen looks a bit... well, ugly
it does work in xp, can't remember how i got it to but it took me ages. try googling, for hours on end like i did
one game i would love to see remade that hasnt already been mentioned is Quarantine you are a cab driver in a blade runner type Location and can mod out your car with guns and things in order to drop off your ride quicker
I think Grim Fandango would look lovely with updated graphics, only problem with putting that on a pc from the last 5 years is that there are sections that require a really slow processor "elevator sequence + fork lift spring to mind". Dunno if a frest coat of paint would ruin my all time favourite game but it might be a good investment for lucas art.
Heimdall 1 & 2 Roadrash 1 Frontier (Elite 2) Another world Mortal Kombat Street Fighter 2 Discworld 1 & 2 Shadow of the Beast 2 Operation Wolf (would LOVE to see this on the Wii) And a lot more old Amiga games that I cant remember the names of.....
Commando. Beach head Manic miner Knight mare Loved the sound effects in all of those and the box art.
