    Full story

This is getting ridicules now. Its not just the fact that more information has been lost but in the manner the laptop was taken, that was just stupidity.

"Police said the laptop was taken from a vehicle parked overnight in the Edgbaston area of Birmingham."

who the f*** leaves a laptop full of sensitive data inside a parked car? especially in the night..... what utter noobs.... I really hope for the sake of those people that the thieves did not know what was inside it and formatted it....

Well, if they didnt know what was on it, they sure do now.... its palstered on the news and the internet, lol, tis a bit silly... I mean, c'mon, petty theives and car-smashers arent the brightest sparks in the world, its likely that they sold it to a guy in the pub for £50 who formatted it and gave it to his son or something, but hey, why advertise the fact that it contained super-secret-mega-expensive-unencrypted-absolutely-mission-critical-data on it... in fact, why advertise it at all, shut the hell up and hope it blows over, kick up a fuss if it gets bad

A friend of mine thought that and took it into the pub with him, put it on the floor under the table. It got nicked.

    That's what I was thinking.

Maybe we should just all leave the country...

And reported on the same day...

Perhaps instead of terrorist alerts we should have "stupid alerts". Except that the sirens would never stop screaming. :duh:

Yes, because he wouldn't know it was me, would he? Kind of integral to the act of stealing.

What is of more concern is that terrorists have been showing a particular revenge interest in Muslim recruits.

The question people should ask is: "What did such sensitive data do on the local drive of a laptop in the first place?"

This is what we have remote desktop/VTS systems for... Internet access is so widely available now days, that such data shouldn't have to be stored locally.

    zomg encryption lol!!11one

/emigrates to Russia in order to support the communist party.

    Edit:

/suddenly realises the irony of a communist party being brought into power by a democratic vote.

Seriously though, why hasn't there been a legislation passed preventing unencrypted sensitive data being stored on portable hardware?
