If you guys want to check out the pictures (about 1000 of them) http://www.photobucket.com/ username: jeffrey9 password: bn Have Fun
APE 240 grill OK the Aqua-Computer APE 240 mod. The AirPlex Evo 240 grill is almost a "natural fit" for the 5.25" bay side. I was going to just use red acrylic, but while messing with the case wiring the idea hit me. In the case of the V1000, a small cut is required at the top of the grill to allow it to slide past the cases side panel locking mechanism. That is it. I need to cut a piece of red acrylic to go behind the APE 240 grill, but for today the original panel I made for the area will "stand in". The acrylic will get bolted to the grill with more of the stainless hexhead bolts used throughout the case. I don't have the correct size or length (on order). And the last few pictures to hold you until next time.
damn! that does look really schweet! im going to start my new cube project soon, and will most likely show it off here @ bit-tech take care people
Indeed, purdy! I was about to ask what the hell APE stood for, but I'm sure it's AirPlex Evo now (well... I hope!). You must have quite a few of those grills around...
i've watched this project since the begging, and i ain't no words to describe it. simply the best casemodd i've seen ever since. congratulations. altough i've got a question: how mutch did you spend in this project?? take care
Umm...is it just me or do you not see the space between the metal and the red. To me, it is realy bringing this project down. But good job any who.
Maybe he'll add in a window there. It's like the back behind the mobo tray... you know that "it's all in the details" But this one really is too pretty to have hidden.
WOW. You mean to tell me that small a detail is all it takes to bring a project like this down? So yeah, it's just you. MS. I've been following this project from the start and was THE mod that got me motivated to do mine. Just haven't commented before now because eveyone else has said it all. So not trying to sound like a fanboy or anything but great job.
Fox If you read the thread, he did say he has to cut a new piece of red plexi to go behind the grill, but the original piece will do for today's photos. BenJ
For someone that got so livid when people didn't "read" all of his thread before jumping to conclusions you thin khe would know better. And so should I with this nonsense. So back on topic. MS. I had a similar idea using a piece of perforated mesh but it didn't turn out all that well so I scrapped it. Tried again with mirrored black plexi and ruined the mirror effect with a slip of the dremel. Didn't feel like trying again.
Don't be too hard on the foxx, I think we are all guility of visiting the project logs and looking at the pictures w/o reading the text. My reason for posting " a 1/2 finished mod" was my own excitement over the discovery of a EZ fix for (in my option) one of the most ugly areas of any case, the 5.25" bay side. This mod should work on "any" case (you may need you use an cut-down APE360 grill on some cases)..For the price of the Aqua-Computer APE grill and some acrylic (color of your choice) you can turn an eye-sore into a focal point of your machine.. Rest assured, when finished the red acrylic backing-plate will fit "like a glove". I have spent too much time/money to accept anything less! POST-SCRIPT: I just ran across these: http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/sicucothyosk.html Anyone who enjoys the Gothic-Stuff (like me) will need some of these.. MS
Question modsquad - do you still have those old hard drive mounting bays which you removed for this mod? I bought this same case the other day and have been modding it for a server application so was looking for some more HD mounts to use. Please let me know if you still have the mounts (I think I can straighten the bend you made ) and are willing to part with them. Thanks! Deano
