Thanks Malvolio! I haven't decided on the final designs for the outside of the case yet. I do love Flutterguy's pissed off look with her eyes half closed. That may be good for the door, plus I have the right side panel to think about and maybe an etch on the window too...

    Update 21st Nov

Thanks towelie! This may be an unusual or unpopular mod with some people but hopefully I can finish it to the standard I have in mind and realise all the little ideas I have. Here's a small update with what I've been up to over the past couple of days. Even though I am still waiting for deliveries, I've continued with the sheet styrene fabrication and even more painting!

PSU cover completely finished, painted and with another cutie mark applied with sticker paper before being sealed with lacquer. I have managed to get the joins between the pieces absolutely flawless without using any type of filler. It looks like it's been vacuum formed in one piece :D

    Also made this thing.

Close up of the corner showing another seamless join. My damn digicam is a very old model so the photos are a bit naff. I may have to get a new one before I've finished this project, although I'm still trying to get some decent hardware to go in this. The blue details on my current motherboard are certainly going to clash badly with the colour scheme :(

Going back to that last thingie I've made, I'm going to give people a chance to guess what it may be for before I show it installed. Hopefully I should be able to finally finish my DVD drive and fan controller tomorrow and make a nice big update!

is it a cover for the lower right corner of the motherboard, covering the front panel connections and sata cables?

I wish I could have an SSD in the build... Closer to the front of the case!

Very close this time but still not quite right!

Not surprised someone else has drawn that picture of Fluttershy. I actually drew the one I'm using myself and you'll see where it's going soon. Just need to get a couple more things done and try a lighting test. I have a couple of areas I can add more LEDs to if I need them, but I want to see how it's going to look first.

    Update 27th November

It's been a few days since my last update as I've had a lot of issues with deliveries but I've got a small update while I finish soldering and repainting the front panel from my DVD drive. Then I can post some pictures of the lighting so far and decide if it needs more or not... I've also managed to get a bit of cash together for some new hardware but more on that in a minute.

I left the last update with this picture

I had a couple of guesses as to what it was, the final one was quite close but not quite right.

It's an air duct! With the rotated HDD cage and a (relatively) large gap between it and the rear of the front panel, I came up with this idea. It works well too! My camera is playing up and lost the other pictures/can't take any more, but I managed to find some thin A4 sheets of foam in a perfect match to the shade of yellow. All the edges have been sealed with this and I can easily feel the air flowing through the cage now whereas before it would have relied solely on the general airflow through the case.

I also tried a mock-up of my existing motherboard.

As expected, it looks horrendous :sigh: I love ASUS motherboards and I've used them solely for years but why do they all have blue details unless you get a RoG board?? There's nothing wrong with blue but it's certainly not a colour for this mod...

Cue some motherboard research and I was thinking of using one of these...

The plain black would look OK but then I stumbled over this instead!

I will be using my existing Phenom II X4 and 4GB of RAM until I can afford a Sandy Bridge system but this board seemed perfect! Reviews said it was a good board and it also has a few other useful features the Gigabyte board doesn't, only thing it's missing is USB3 but that's not a major concern at the minute as everything I connect to my PC has more than enough bandwidth with USB2. Another major factor was the fact that it costs less then 2/3 of the price of the Gigabyte so I decided to go ahead and order it. It'll be another few days until it arrives so I decided to mock this one up as well.

Happy with that! Now this means I know where the power connectors are going to be so I can make the custom PSU extension cables to the right length. I also need to make two PCI Express 6 pin connectors now too as I'll be ordering a new graphics card on Tuesday to replace my 7600GT

Thanks! I've only ever seen ducts on radiators, never a duct for a place like this but I could be wrong... I'll be running two HDDs with no space between them so it should really help with cooling :)

I can't believe that conversation just took place on these forums. It's a scandal. It's a disgrace. :nono:

Because there really is no question that Fluttershy is the best Pony.

@adidan Thanks! Update later hopefully showing some more progress. Never forget to always love and tolerate :)

@fuganater Thanks fuganater. Painting stuff with this brand of paint is a nightmare. I've had to do about 7 or 8 layers of paint on some parts... It's like magic the way it reveals details that were on some parts that have been sanded off and primered over!

    Update 3rd December

It's been a few days since the last update again as I've been having issues with the paint...

I managed to get the front door painted with a good finish.

The when I went to refit it so I could put the front panel on I realised that the yellow was a different shade somehow :waah: It looks like the paint I'm using has different finishes depending on the surface it's applied to! So, time to sand it down and try again then the fun started...

The paint on the upper section of the door has started cracking, this is the third attempt and it still seems to be doing the same but it's gradually getting better. The weird thing is that I haven't done anything differently, it's been sanded and cleaned the same as every other piece but it looks contaminated from something...

I have managed to get the cover for the rear of the 5.25" bay completed and installed. Installed pictures coming soon when I get this damn door sorted! I've held the front panel in place and got the top plate installed and it's starting to look like a PC again now.

My new motherboard has arrived too!

Nothing really impressive about the included extras but I have my yellow SATA cables already and all the power cables so it's not a problem.

This also means that I can paint the I/O panel

the other three PCI slot covers I need

and the slot cover from my sound card

At least the paint on these is playing nicely!
