When you embed your image, use "embed this image" instead of "embed thumbnail." Like this:

Good you got the rivet sorted!

I embed the thumbnail to make sure the picture doesn't go down because of excessive bandwidth usage. People are free to click the thumbnail if curious.
I thought that was a decent way to do it, although traffic probably isn't very high.

My sleeve is too far back, I won't fix it here but the 24pin will be neater.

Thanks, I thought it'd go well with the motherboard :)
The mouse is a Roccat Kone by the way. Not sure they still make this since they released the Kone +

I got myself a bit of an "interesting" HSF to change from the boring intel one.

I give you the Xigmatek Apache EP-CD90
    [IMG]
It's got terrible reviews, barely able to better a stock intel HSF, but I liked its looks and figured it would have no problem keeping the 35W TDP i3-2100T cool.
But it had to be modded a little :D

Reassembled with the fan cable shortened and sleeved:

    Hope you like it :D

The painted Apache looks great! Good to see someone paying so much attention to a NAS :)

    Thanks Jipa :)
Let's just say it makes for great practice for future projects ;)

Oh, did I mention I received 24TB yesterday?

That must have been one decently hefty shipment!

I remember when I got my 8 hard drives for my current server... they shipped each hard drive individually...

It's looking good! Can't wait to see the progress :D

Awesome! Great attention to detail with the HSF. And the shipment- may I think of you as a torrent whore?

24TB? I assume this means a RAID card is going to make an appearance at some point? The onboard ones tend to be a bit... s***.

Well, two of he drives were marked "Hotspare" so I would assume a 10 disc RAID5 or RAID6, so the actual space would be closer to 14.5-16.25TB but either way, that's a fair amount of space...

I'm interested in seeing what you go with for a RAID card, I'll be rebuilding my server next, and am looking for a solid RAID card... I love my current 3ware....

I'll be using my Areca 1230
As for the raid, I was first gonna do raid 5 + 2x hotspares, but was talked into going raid 6, so it'll be raid 6 + 1 hotspare.

    No problem ;)
The price from these guys will probably be a shocker though (I think they were asking something like $25 back when I asked them). I'd try and find them or equivalents somewhere else.

As I think I explained before, I'm wiring those 8 drives with thicker wires, so I've had to resort to the following technique for the wire to fit inside the passthrough connectors. I removed the insulator where it slides into the groove and used heatshrink over the exposed wire. This way the short sleeve bits are held firmly in place and I won't have to be relying solely on the cap to hold everything in place.

The precut sleeve was a little short for the job so I cut some 21mm lengths instead.

The extra cage plonked into position

    That's all for today

Love the cable job on the back there, I am currently trying to get hold of some hot swap internal connectors for my upcoming build.

cables look so much cleaner this way.

I won't be able to work on this for the next 10 days or so.

As usual, click for high res

Next step will be cutting off a bit more of my motherboard tray as feeding the cables through is a little tight for my liking.

    Really nice project :D
I especially like the wireing to the harddrives though why are there 2 Sata ports on each board when it's only one disk connected to it?
