Looking good so far, can't wait to see what you've got up your sleeve. Believe it or not, I just threw out that exact computer, my parents made me because we were cleaning out the house in order to sell it. I've always loved macs, I have a 2nd edition iMac, not the one with an lcd, sitting right next to me, and I think I got a few mod ideas for it. Anyway, great luck with this.

Question- shouldn't the heating element be higher up, doesn't it need to almost touch the plexi?

I do it with a propane torch and some wood to hold thing together and to bend things... works well... see project divergence for the complex bending that I did :D

I started by bending the single sheet for the Front and Top of the case.

First I had to mark some guides where I wanted the bends to be.

Then to make the second bend and complete the front/top...

This looks like it'll be something quite nice. I do enjoy people modding old and odd cases into something a bit more special. Beats the standard case and window job :) .

I like the plexi though, should be nice.

The next step was to make a new mount for the CD-Rom and the Matrix Orbital LCD Display.
I didn’t want to use the factory mount, it placed the cd to far over, and I wanted it to be closer to center.
I started with the CD-Rom, again, just two basic 90* bends.

    One side being bent...

I used the drive itself as a form.

Now I had to make a mount for the LCD. I wanted it to be right above the CD-Rom, and the best solution was to build onto the cd mount.

Figuring out where to cut and marking dimensions...

Bent the two sides over, to make it so I can mount it to the uprights on the CD-Rom mount...

Now, to start cutting the holes to mount the LCD into...

Done with the big hole...just need to clean it up and drill holes for the LCD's mounts...

There, all mounted up and cut. Works for me!

No one will be able to see this once finihsed, so it doesn't need to be 100% beautiful. :thumb:

Once that was cut, I had to test fit everything and mark out where to cut (for cd-rom) and make the window (for the LCD) on the main case.

    Now to start cutting...

All done there. All I have to do is finish sand and buff the opening for the cd...

that Apple logo is damn sexy, Will your modded G3 have my unmodded G3's babies?

I have a G3 Blue and White tower and a one of those models, its up to you which one you want to mate :)

I was going to sell my Beige G3, but I dont know. I got it for free from my last college and a 17" mac monitor, thats a beast!

But I think I will keep an eye on this too.

this looks very promising. I love Apple's. Work with them every day :)
Within two weeks i'll be in NY and I think I'm gonna buy the new Imac (and maybe give it a little mod :D , that will be the world first mod on the new Imac I guess ... ) Naaa I'm just joking. It's to pretty to mess with it. I'll just buy it and put it in the office :)

But for this old case... I think its gonna be very impressive when its finished. Keep up the good work.

    greetz,

nice mod. I really liek teh shaping of the plexi, all I had was a vice, claps wood and heat gun. I bet yours is easier, but mine takes up less space :D .

    I don't think it's been answered, what os u using? 8? 9? os x 10-10.4?
os-x is t3h pimp. too abd it's not based of linux, but some random micro-kernel based non-gpl os. it still has the terminal tho

FYI: after google search I found this:
    http://www.cpu-collection.de/?l0=co&l1=Motorola&l2=PowerPC
    It's a g3 233 w/ 66mhz fsb.
    released in 1997.
