Now I`m finally started to do some real modding. I`m rebuilding an old server AT case to a nice ATX Bigtower case I got it from my dad , he had used it to a server on his job , I`m happy that he is my dad! Now some measurements: Height 64 cm Depth 48 cm Width 18 cm I have looked and it´s name is simply "bigtower" Some pics are lost due to server problems , the thread is repaired as far as it goes
Here are some more pics of it: With out cover With out cover and front: The case from behind, after I cutted out the 2 fan holes:
Ouch, thats going to be a hard time of placing the mobo standoffs as that is one of those cases where the mobo was mounted on plastic clips, so the original holes are far too big. I tried to do the same thing to that very case because I had no other use for it, but had little luck. Yours will probably be better though, heck, its probably twice as clean as mine was =).
I was going to use the original pieces in 4 places that fit an atx board, except that I would have needed to shorten a bunch of stand-offs and hot-glue them to the plastic stands. The board would have been slightly crooked but as far as I remember it was acceptable.
Here is a list of things a have planed to do: Re make it to ATX. Paint the case black, just poolish the inside a bit. Make a big window on the side of the case. Make a top window. Modd the PSU a bit : it`s grey now. I want it black. And remove the original fan grill. Change it`s fan. Make some H.D.D. leds. Make some H.D.D. cages. Add some fans in to it. Add some Blue CCFl`s in to it. Add some chrome top handles. Add some chrome fan guards. + Play around with some speakers. That`s about all the things I want to do. I got to be fast, the LAN weeks start at the end of August!
PSU Modding Now it`s time to do some modds. While thinking of the case I decided to take a break and give my PSU some attention:Since I have already said what I want to do on the PSU , so on to the work! First I took off the ugly fan grill. And these pics shows the PSU after some cutting and you could also see a plastic bag over the mechanics, these are for protecting the inside when painting it. And after painting it looks like this: And this is how it turned out, I am quite pleased with it.
Now I have added the new fan: A Morstar with 3 blue led`s I also added a new fan grill , a golden one from a blown Chieftec PSU. EDIT:The pic is lost, see it further in the thread. Please RATE this thread!!!
Hi guys.. Have been at vacation and then the school has started. Now I have thinked twice at what I really want to do. The list is still like above, I have just modded it and chosed some other materials: thickness, sort of buttons, window shape and stuffs like that. I have done one thing at those weeks: Totally detroyed and slaughtered 2 psus. The reward?: 10 molex connectors with cables. 2 switches. Some rubber rings . A fan guard 2 fans. I will do something these week!! I have the paint and the jigsaw at home: Time for some modding!!
WTF! I haven`t got anything done on the case this weekend either! I have changed computer case for one friend and changed motherboard for another friend. Finally I have gotten some 2 mm thick plexi and it has a little "smoked" colour to. Those windows are saved! You guys or girls who read this please post a link: I need to find a guide: how to rewire networkcard leds to the front of the case, or something similar.
This is how my case should look like when its ready. EDIT: Pic is lost, see it further in this thread
That black and aluminum case the side of your desk is screaming" PUT A PUTER IN ME"!!!!!! That would be a nice mod, me looks closer maybe a little too big.... Can't wait to see progress...keep it up man..
Big Update today!!! I have been doing some modding the last week but haven`t got time to load and subscribe it. Sorry! Some drilling and sawing later : And finally my 3.5 to 5.25 bay is gonna get a new colour: black I have lots of things to do outside , as it is the end of summer it is carrying woods time. Not happy with it but at least I have free ADSL for it. Update coming soon!
