nice mate, the otenneiger (sp!) mk1s were immense, 16 valves or 16 sautes or summit in french for valves, produced about 160 brake.

they were ugly with the factory add ons, the grille is one of the worst in memory but the engines were a piece of automotive porn. Even bare blocks go for 2000 Uk pounds upwards these days so if he still have it, guaranteed it will be worth ALOT of money!

just waiting for the insurance to call me back about the green polo then i can take it up to the unit and paint it :D

Well today i managed to angle grind away alot of rust and a stupid amount of filler on the rear bootlid, etch primed it then just slapped on 2 cans of satin black after keying it all.

Could do with another couple of cans, so i will finish that at some point this week.

The 4x4 look is comical but bar the tracking being out it still handles sweet as fook, however

when the left front wheel hits a bump, rut or pothole the steering goes all over the shop so i suspect a worn balljoint, and i think the arb rubbers could do with replacing, ive not checked it but there is no doubt some excess play in it. If i can get some g-ladersiete bushes cheap ill do it. The steering rack on the other hand is tighter than a [ insert gary glitter joke here ] so thats schawibbady, just need to get rid of the wafer thin steering wheel.

Looking good mate, I hardly recognised that new polo you got as a temp runabout! :p

As for the Lupolo, will you be sticking that on the back? I'd love to see that. :hehe:

hahahhaa cheers dude, yeh the 895ccs of fury is a wee beast!

yeh ive got a volkswagon script badge which is like handwritten style, brand new, either have that on the back with lupolo, or a -VW-1600- badge on the back from an old aircooled beetle and put the script on on the grille but offset to the side.

to make the lupolo badge without using halfords chrome stick on things costs **** loads ot get a badge maker to get the tooling, ******s, they said to me 200 quid to make the vw script badge, luckiy i won one on german ebay nos for 8 quid

Just a quick question. Anybody know if any of the cars in this thread made it to US. I had a Geo Metro(Suzuki Swift) That had a 3 cyl. 997cc engine. These engines appear smaller?

PS: I forgot!!!!!!!! This is good work, I used to do this stuff many(too many) years ago. Once a motor head always a motor head.

nice, glad to see you're moving on with another awesome dub after the tragedy that occured to your last one. Nice to see you're on retro rides too, I've got nothing to show on that site, but it's good fun to troll.

cheers fella :) hows things with yourself, what you rolling around in these days

hi mate :) yeh man a few mk1 polos have been imported into america over the years but its probably in single figures or low double figures. I know of three from memory, one owner i speak too on regular occasions

and the suzuki swift turbos are rapid as fook, and yep the 895cc beast was slower, 40 bhp as standard hahahha, the engine im gonna be putting in the crashbot is 75 bhp as standard but with a couple of choice cheapy mods i can get it to around 90

wooo, well not much has happened on lupolo in the time being, we painted up the rear panel in silver, and the front wings, going to paint the rear number plate surround in satin black ala derby cls style and i need to top coat the por 15'd front panel with primer and some satin black or diamond silver as the por15 is UV reactive so wont be too good for a long period of time!

got all the engine mounts i need now so happy days, just need to get up to the unit and get it stuck in there :)

As for the crashbot thats changed a fair bit since the last time it was pictured.

had Charlie on the go working her magic doing some graffiti on the sides of his daily ..
Took a good shot of mine and his and got a few of Charlies superb artwork ..

The car went form this ...

anyway we had some carb troubles and in the process of trying to fix it i got bored and stuck from 40mm springs on the front and bodged a GTI front splitter on to it and took a wet flat to the bonnet and left it to rust.

and then i spotted a lonely looking GT lying in the corner of the unit so off out with the engine which is now sitting in the crashbots engine bay.

got a few jobs left to do on it, well a few more than i expected anyway

    put running gear back on
jubilee clip the new fuel lines
fit new camshaft pulley and woodruff key
    set static timing
    recheck and tighten head bolts
    bolt up water pump
    bolt up thermo housing
    connect lower rad hose
finish connecting up and splicing gts engine wiring and fusebox loom to the cars interior loom

muchos appriciation to giorgio and char for thier help getting it in, fingers crossed we may have it running for the end of the weekend :)

also managed to swap the early rear bumper for a brand new chrome late bumper and i know a friend who has a nos rear trim and end caps which i shall be having woop

well progress has been slow recently, hampered by the lack of a runnign motor to get me back and forth to the units.

bought this lil beasty the other day tho

just a lil runaround but going to stick the OZ routes on there and a brand new remus exhaust thats for the lupolo but itll go back on when its ready

fitted the lupo engine today, was on my own but still managed it mainly thanks for a trusty 3 tonne low loader jack that managed to beast the car into the air. probably slightly unsafe with the lack of axle stands but job was a good un

Still need to bolt the rear gearbox mount, just needs jacking up from the back now the car is back on all wheels.

Next job is to assess if i can use a mk3 alternator with the gti alternator pulley.

Sorry grunge, totally missed your question a while back, must've been distracted by the pretty pictures. I'm driving an 02 Nissan Xterra 5spd manual, think of a Nissan Frontier with a SUV body, because that's what it is. Love the different build route you took, painting it like that, pretty boss.

no worries mate, just googled a picture and that thing is a beast hahaha! must go some when you get it going but i bet stopping is a whole different ball game, mind you new fangled brakes mean every car can stop decently. Have you got a big family or is it mainly you driving in it? Get yourself a little old skool car and youll never look back especially in the summer, you just get connected to the road in a whole other way

and cheers i was just gonna matt black it and my friend wanted to do some stencils but she had been wanting to paint me a picture for years and i gave her a car and our stoned thoughts of an evening manifested themselves onto the car the next day!

Its not that bad for braking, although accel is extremely slow, i don't know how but athe 3.3L V6 only puts out 170 HP. It's just me driving it, I'm in college so it's nice to throw my bike into. Over here it's actually pretty small, i do some light offroading with it, might get some more serious stuff for it and go more hardcore, but as of now i don't have the money to pay for new parts when they break. It's got character though, which i really like. I know what you mean about old school cars, my dad has a 88 M5, i got to drive it around one weekend, wow. I dream of an old bimmer to drive around. But anyways, can't wait to see what you do next with those v-dubs.

    holy moly

jobs for the next couple of weeks

rebuild inner cvs, clean out and regrease
    fit driveshafts
    swap tyres onto oz routes
fit new master cylinder & brake pedal
    fit new brake lines throughout
    refit calipers and discs
check clearance for mk1 golf rad
    fit oil catch tank
    fit lights, bumpers and grill

thatll keep me busy while i start to dechipher the lupo loom and make my new megasquirt loom up and find someone who can weld me some box section to my recaro mounts and harness mounting point.

also on the agenda for the crashbot

    fit 256mm conversion
refit mk1 polo engine loom and use part of the GT engine loom (weve already wired up the fuel pump)
source and fit a new/good used drivers side tie rod arm
drop engine, drill out rounded intermediary pulley bolt and fit new bolts, cambelt and waterpump

i need an engine crane, its decided. this fliping agro bottom pulley bolt is fliping me off and im going to have to lift the engine out the bay to attack it with a drill! or just drop it out the bottom but after the pia we had getting the rear gearbox mount lined up i cba arggggggh

anyway stuck the chrome bumpers on the lupolo just to please me after a day of agro!

rear panel and the sides of the rear 1/4 and front wings have been sprayed, ive also noticed a spot of por15 i forgot to get on the front panel, its well annoying me and my por15 has set harder than a mofo

cheers phil, are you on club polo? and any where near hodnet? aye my mate with the grey caddy is from the shire!

retro is the way forward, ive always been a sucker for old cars since i was a nipper.

Hopefully UD will be its outing, it wont be on show tho unless i get in on a club stand but for me the real fun will be driving it on the way down =D

someone offered me a mk6 1.4 polo for the lupolo and i had to laugh and tell him it would be so boring i would fall asleep on the motorway.

i like the fact they are all so simple and straight to the point, no electrical guff to get in the way bar the neccessities!
