The latest in a long line of silly computer disasters is that my Q-TEC 550 blew up. Looking for a cheap/decent 550W to replace it ASAP. I am not a big OC'er so i don't worry about the voltages too much.

    What can you recommend?

    Thanks in advance...... :cooldude:

Cheap and decent don't go together in the same sentence. Decent and well-priced do.

I would say atanum141's antec would be your best bet

Seasonic are supposed to be good. Efficient and stable...bit on the pricey side though...
CustomPC mag did a huge review of PSU's this month...quite scary that the majority of them did not even pass ATX specifications...

Erm, you could run that system on a quality 350W PSU... anything from Antec, Tagan, Enermax, Seasonic, or Hiper would serve you well. If you really do need 550W for a new system or something, then Hiper do a 580W modular supply that's a bit cheaper than the competition.

Thanks for the info guys. I got the q-tec because i needed another PSU after blowing up a generic 250w when adding a 9800 pro to my system! I will probably go for a decent 350w, maybe an Antec.

    Cheers again :thumb:

    Ok, got the neopower!
Installed it yesterday, its very quiet compared to the crappy qtec i used to use. All the auto fan controlling stuff is quite impressive too. It also has a 3 year warranty which should keep me in good stead for a few years yet.

    Initial impressions, Great! :thumb:

Yea! what was even scarier was that out of 31 tested, 15 failed and 9 EXPLODED!

Go to custompc.co.uk if you didnt catch the mag off the shelves... they usually post thier reviews online...

A qualified PSU at 450 Watts it is better than a noname 550 Watts....
Antec are good but Enermax + OCZ are better. :naughty:

I noted with interest that an Antec TruePower 350W has equal available +12V current to the Ebuyer Extra Value 650W, and what's more, the Antec will provide all 18 amps reliably, as opposed to smouldering.

    330W antec. Nuff said.

Edit: Just noticed MrSeanKons post, I would strongly disagree about OCZ and Enermax being better. OCZ are made from the same stock as Tagans which aren't as proven as Antecs or Enermaxes. But while Enermax have a great reputation, I've been hearing some serious rumblings that there have been some really bad recent batches, so I'd avoid them for a year or so.

Any Antec is a safe bet. Don't cheap out on a PSU. Cheap PSUs blow up.
