William Goldman died yesterday, age 87, of bowel cancer and pneumonia.

He will be best known to geeks around the world as the novel and screenplay writer of The Princess Bride, but also wrote The Marathon Man, and wrote the screenplays for classics like Misery, All the Predident's Men and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

“Life isn't fair, it's just fairer than death, that's all.” ― William Goldman, The Princess Bride
