I'm not buying into this crap until game developers actually make games that are truly multi-threaded. I can only think of a handful of games that are supposes to use more, but only use 2 and half threads. I'll be fine with my C2Q for a few more years yet.

Umm - did you read the news story? These are server CPUs, not desktop CPUs for gaming on.

D'OH! Just skim read it, but my stance still stands for desktop CPUs. Definitely a good thing for servers that can utilise the extra cores, especially if it's just a drop in replacement.

Well once we get pasted what I think it was 32 cores, the tech industry will switch from Multi-Core to many-core tech where you have 100+ cores that handle individual threads and operate at like 10mhz each or something like that which is far more efficient then current designs, that will be an interesting time.

That'll be nice. Until that time, however, I'm more than happy watching After Effects render across four or eight. Oh yes, that's good, Intel. Right there. Oooh. Yes. Mmm. Good. Harder!

your going to argue with that? the more the battle between Intel and AMD the cheap and better performance we get out of both companies. We might see a six core Core-i7 for under $600 one of these days!!!

I'm testing this theory this week.

I've been 'working' on ArmA II recently due to all the recent beta patches that have been released. Can't say I've noticed a huge amount of difference in load to be honest.

Valve seem to be the only ones making proper head-way, I'll be interested to see your results.

The more cores the better this means I get better value out of our VMWare ESX licence and more bang for buck when buying a cabinet with 32 blades in each have two physical CPU's, although I imagine it would still be quite costly but not as costly as buying another cabinet with all the other assosiated costs!

Orange Box engine games seemed to like multi-core CPU's, at least Day of Defeat Source did..

Well if it is supported by existing xeon boards then I am loving this idea!

The difference with Intel over AMD: at least when they release silly number of cores on one chip it actually performs to that scale: The 6 core Intel chips still beat most of the 6 or above AMD chips to date. This one sounds epic already. Intel bandwagon, fanboy or stalker, it doesnt matter, Intel own the CPU business, and you should be kissing their feet for the kind of awesome chips they release since CORE2.

6 10 12 cores HA none of this is impressive anymore as Intel or Amd needs a chip with an actual animal or human brain on it wired to a 1 million pin socket now that would be impressive.

$3 million dollars worth of PC hardware running the same $40 dollar games with $5 dollar graphics.
