@Braveheart, all done in SU. I'm almost done with all the detailing on the case but because I'm not 100% sure on the measurements I don't know if I should add it to the collection. What do you think guys?

Good idea swift_wraith on the window suggestion, I might just do that if and when I add it to the collection. Give SU a try bro it's easier than you think and we are all here to help you out if you run into a wall. Try something easy to model as your fist project and we'll start from their.

    BTW welcome to the forum.:thumb:

@Braveheart, you should look through this thread and you will see some of the work these talented artist have come up with. SkethUp allows you to be as detailed as you want to be. That is why it is a great 3D modeling program and one of the most userfriendly apps you can ever use. It has it's limitations but it is still a great 3D app.

Here are some examples of from other SU artist...

Scooby, what material and rendering method did you use? Also what version? Rendering metal, esp. fans gave me great headache. Thnx.

@Aterius Gmork, I used Kerkythea 2008 Echo for the rendering. BTW people their is a update to "v2.0.5" that you can find in the same link. And I used the "3LightStageStudio" that you can see below. Marci had a link for the download a few threads back. If you don't have this let me know and I'll try to post it.

This is a SU file, and all you would have to do is delete the two boxes and paste what ever you want in its place. Their are a few thing you must have if you don't have them yet... 1. Metals Phong A1 and 2. Metals Ashkimish for MLT. These are the the files you need to add to KT for your models, for the fans I selected "prefast_Stainless_Steel".

Once in position you can now save a KT file. Now open the file you just saved in KT, highlight/select the fans (we'll use fans for this example) you will now see a star next to the name on the left hand column, right-click and select "Apply Material" and select what ever you want for the fans. experiment a little till you fine something you like.

TIP: In SU, when adding color to your model that you want to render in KT try to rename the color to something that would help you distinguish it in KT. Example, say you have three boxes, one red, one blue and one yellow and your background is red too. When you select the red box to color it will also select the background too because the both have the same color name...RED. SO rename your components when coloring them in SU.

I hope this helps and if you have any questions just ask (someone else):D:D:D Joke!!!! Just ask, I'll do my best to give you an answer:thumb:

I found something to fill my saturday

I drew a small cabin and put it on a ....... (you'll find out tommrroow or once I get done:D)

Those are things that get the blood flowing to the brain

Today has been great, my CAD teacher GAVE me Solidworks(with Cosmos) student edition for free because I'm his best student, it's worth $200 (he got it from a teachers convention)

With Solidworks and Cosmos you can test parts in many different ways
    -finite element analysis tool
    -kinematic and motion simulation analysis
    -computatinal fluid dynamics analysis
    And create photorealisic images
And create animations of the models

Now I need a new computer :blah: :(

@scooby: thank you. My problem wasn't the lightning though - I already have that scene. ;) It will still be helpfull for others.

I was asking because I always get noise when rendering metal. The only way to avoid that was using MLT, which takes ages to render. A 1000 frames animation for one picture with every frame taking well more than two minutes for an all-metal case - thanx but no thanx. ;) Maybe it is better with the new 2008 Version. I will try, that should finish off my already dying CPU and I can justify buying a new computer. Stilll using P4. :D

    €Beast: Nice one!

@AG, yes, some of the metals unfortunately doesn't turn out the way one would like. I get the same artifacts as well. But check this out bro, since I upgraded my system and now using KT Echo 2008 my renderings have been a lot faster than before. So when you decide to upgrade your rig I know you will feel the difference, I certainly did.

@Beast, I heard that SolidWorks is like AudoCad on steroids. An architect friend of mine offered a copy of SW to me, you think I should try it?

BTW I posted that pic of the "Mission Style Clock By Dave R" for you. Thought you would appreciate it.

SW has a very steep learning curve and is hard to get used too. I've been using it ~2 hours a day 5 days a week for 2 weeks and I still find it hard to use. But all the stress test stuff is worth it. Make sure you get it with Cosmos(stress test stuff)

Nice computer you should give it to me :D :hehe:

I too need a new computer but mine is only going to be around $550, I'd spend more but I'm 16 and need a car

Beast-Man, unfortunately any upgrading need is going to cost you and with a $500 budget that's will make upgrading very selective no matter how you slice it. Realistically you can run those apps on a $500 rig but you will take a hit on performance. You would have to spend a bit more to really make those apps fly.

I think the best thing here is that your still a young lad and I'm proud of you having the skills and interest in such high end programs. You will go far my friend just keep it up and study hard and I'm sure by the time you turn 18 you will have a awesome computer and be driving a 2010 Porsche Boxster.

Patients and hard work Grasshopper and you will see the light very soon. BTW when you get thier can I get a loan from you so I can upgrade too.:naughty::lol::naughty:
