Considering I modeled it from pictures I'd say it very close to accurate, so have fun with it. I left the side panels blank so you guys can add your own side windows if you want.

Jez shoulds have it up on the site very soon....Thanks Jez!!!:thumb:

Here is that cabin (on an island) I was talking about. I made everything except: the tiki head, the bed, the wood piles, the wardrobe, the phone, fishing pole and the hammock

    Overview Of The Island

Iso Cabin Back with solar battery, fresh water storage (for drinking), rain water storage (for showers and toilet), a shower and an outhouse

Does anyone have a to-scale model of ruber grommet? Like the ones Antec P series have for mounting hdd's.
Never had one in my life, so no idea on what size they actualy are..

nice Island the beast ! :jawdrop:

and nice case scooby. For your next computer, you should realy get a quad core, because it goes realy fast to do renderings.
I had an amd x2 5000+ and it took around 4-5min to render a frame in 3ds max, and now with an q6600 G0 @ 3.2ghz it only takes 1.5-2min.
So it's realy worth to get a quadcore if your doing alot of rendering.

sorry karolis, I've no idea of how big they are.

Hey Gilligan has solar panels.:naughty: Great job Beast, almost looks like my island in the pacific. I have a pretty cool house design I want to try too. I'll start on it soon.

@karolis, you got some pics of it dude? I'll give it a go, just need some good images to work from.

@Dark~3nergy, I might just look in to that, four core would be nice. I have my eye on the Q9450 if I go quad but I really have my eye on the E8400 or the E8500 right now and it looks like Intel will be releasing the new C1 stepping revision very soon. Most E8400 owners have been able to hit 4Ghz with very low voltages...less vcore, less heat.

Only thing is (for now) I'm only rendering in KT and two core are it's limits at this time. I have seen a great responce time on rendering on my new rig compared to my old one so I'm happy for now.

    Thanks Scooby and Dark~3nergy

I think I'll do another small hunting cabin(one with windows) this week (I have the entire week off [spring break:hehe:])

If I could afford a quad I wouldn't get it because KT (and maybe Solidworks) aren't able to use a quad, I'd get better parts

Edit: I think I've given up on the ultimate house

I'd get a quad core. There are other programs out there than KT and Solidworks. :worried:

@scooby Thanks. I couldn't find any completely clear top/side photos, but FrozenCPU have a nice shot of them here:
    http://www.frozencpu.com/products/image/6138/scr-116.jpg
The worst thing is, they don't provide any sort of dimensions..

    ::EDIT::
Never mind. After looking at other similar products I decided to make them from soft foam myself. I'll post it here when i come up with a decent design

    As simple as it gets..

    ^^ not too bad ^^^

I'd like a quad core but I can't afford it right now and there aren't that many(if any) 3d programs that support it

Thanks scooby. Not much to show now really, modelling mostly very basic parts, then combining them to make something big, hehe. Besides, i'm really new to this, need time to make something nice (i mean really new, as in 2 weeks with sketchup new) :D
I'll post something as soon as i have something to show ;)

Finally, a use for those grommets ^^ :D

Hard Drive Cage for four 3.5" HDD's.
    With vibration dampening rubber/silicone/foam/whatever-you-think-of grommets.
Floor or side mountable (darker grommets)
    Material 1mm thick

HDD's for illustration purposes only (by pyrocrickett from 3D warehouse)

Very cool, thanks! Is there a library of components in .3ds? I'm a Max user and I don't want to get Sketchup Pro just to convert them.

hmm.. sketchup pro has an export feature, so converting them might not be such a huge problem. What would be, however is the size of exports. That 5MB file in .3ds is <600kB in sketchup. I can't even imagine what a full scale project, that takes say 10-12MB in sketchup, would be in .3ds ..
I heard you can import .skp to Blender and export .3ds, but never tried that.

I tried Blender and it couldn't import the .kmz, even though it's supposed to be able to. I found a little program called Flux Studio than can theoretically import .kmz files and export 3ds. However the textures don't come with it and the geometry can be messed up. I don't care about the textures really, but the geometry is kind of important. Here's what I came up with after much googling and experimentation:

    - export google earth 4 format from Sketchup
    - rename .kmz to .zip, extract
    - import .dae file from models folder into Flux
    - geometry will still be effed up in Max as .3ds, so export in .dxf
    - import into Max, scale to right size, and you have an untextured but otherwise okay model

Of course this ordeal leaves me thinking that maybe I will get Sketchup Pro after all :wallbash:

karolis, could you please export one of the complicated textured models from the component library (like a motherboard) to .3ds so I can see how it comes out in Max? Just compress it, I rar'ed your drive cages and they came out to 419kb.

PS. You could probably save a little space by not exporting that google guy with the model :D

Gosh I feel left out here. LOL! But unfortunately I have zero experience with 3DSMax. But if anyone else is a 3DSMax and SU user and want to export to 3DSMax here is where to go.

Go to "File>Export>3D Model" and click the "Export type:" tab you will get these options....

    3DS (*.3ds)
    AutoCAD DWG (*.dwg)
    AutoCAD DXF (*.dxf)
    Google Earth 4 (*.kmz)
    Collada (*.dae)
    FBX (*.fbx)
    Google Earth (*.kmz)
    OBJ (*.obj)
    VRML (*.wrl)
    XSI (*.xsi)

The "3DS (*.3ds)" that I highlighted above will export to 3DSMax. Unfortunately you need the PRO edition to be able to export this way.

Goodluck rls669 let us know how your project turns out.:thumb:

Oh!!! great work on that HD rack karolis, keep it up bro!!!
