Indeed. I'm pretty sure the on-the-go playlists date back to the first gen iPods, though not having owned one prior to a 4G, I can't testify. In any case, it's a perfectly functional way to create a playlist, uh, on the go, but unless you have a touchscreen or keyboard, it's a pretty annoying way to do any real playlist management.

So... wrong on three counts. You can customize the menus. You can make playlists on the go. You can quickly jump to "now playing", and if you're playing the OTG playlist, then you can add music to your "now playing" list.

I really wish people would understand products before assuming they're crap because they have mass-market consumer appeal.

At least 2G my 1G ipod did not have on the go playlists or anything fancy... well breakout but nothing else.

Hm, well in any case, all of the current models have OTG playlists.

I don't have a problem with iPod, but goddamn, the patronising blurb on the product pages are something else. They don't tell you anything.
What we need is a side-by-side comparison of different players with technical details like these in view...unfortunately, such an evaluation is lacking.
