Well untill I get everything together for my next mod I might as well post some photos I have taken over the last year. Photography is my passion as well as my job. I am the owner of a small photography studio. I specialize sports photography and photojournalistic style wedding photography. Enjoy and any C&C is welcome.

Those are very nice shots indeed :hip:

For the benefit of the other photographic buffs on here (and there are many), may I suggest you include the setup you used to take the images,
and mention any processing work done on them

These are some very nice shots. Because you are a professional photographer I think many here will really appreciate how you got these shots including lens and setup, light position etc. I love picture number 3!

As for posting your site, put it in your signature.

I love 2-4, personally. And yeah, please give us some setup detail! :) (and yes, a link to your site is perfectly allowed and encouraged, but thank you for being concerned with it to begin with).

    I don't mind sharing.

All of these images were taken with a Canon EOS 30D. I will list the lens used for each below.

    1. EF 17-35L
    Focal length:17mm
    F:11
    Exposure: 1/500
    ISO: 100
Canon 530ex used for fill. I was littlerly laying on my stomach getting eaten by sand fleas and freezing cold from the wet sand. I had the camera resting on a sand bad that was no more than 2" thick. I shot it in raw and processed it in Light Room and CS3. Minor cropping and a slight contrast adjustment was made.

    2. EF 17-35L
    Focal length:24mm
    F:22
    Exposure: 1/1000
    ISO: 100

I shot this at around 4pm. I was with a friend and we were talking and I was just playing around with settings and found this in the batch. I adjusted contrast and a slight bump in the curves in CS3.

    3. EF 17-35L
    Focal length:17mm
    F:5.6
    Exposure: 1/500
    ISO: 100

Sunsets are one of my favorite things to capture. I only took 9 shots this afternoon. I went in a hour early and set up then waited. Once I saw the sky working its magic I adjusted my settings and believe it or not this was the 2nd shot I snapped. I adjusted contrast and curves in CS3.

    4. EF 70-200 f2.8L IS USM
    Focal length:90mm
    F:13
    Exposure: 1/200
    ISO: 100

This is the Morris Island Light house in Charleston S.C. It is slowly being consumed by the sea. if you google it you will find a lot of info on it. The day this image was taken was about the most miserable day of my photographic carrier. I was contracted by the history channel to photograph historic sites in Charleston. Well I picked the weekend that Charleston had the worst wind and surf in 10 years. I ruined a hoya circular polarizer and a hoya uv haze filter. They were sand blasted from the wind and beach sand combo. I picked a spot sitting on a rock barier and got this shot at just the right time. PP was contrast and curves and unsharp mask in CS3

    5. EF 18-55 kit lens
    Focal length:18mm
    F:18
    Exposure: 1/8000
    ISO: 100

This was the first balloon to take off at an event I attended. I got this around 7 am and the sun was very bright. I shot it with a kit lens because I wanted to prove to people on another forum that the 18-55 kit lens is not just a paper weight. PP was curves and contrast in CS3

Edit* "4. EF 70-200 f2.8L IS USM" Hoping I can get one of these over the summer, do you use the lens a lot for sports?

Sports is one of the main things I shoot. Most of it is NCAA DIV II or High school but it still pays the bills. I use my 70-200 with a 1.4tc for most out door sports. I do have a 300 prime and a 400 prime for those long reach needs. I use a 24-70L, 50 1.8, and 85L for indoor gym sports (basketball, volley ball) most of the time.

    Some nice shots there! :)
One thing though: Is it me or is the horizon a bit crooked in 2, 3 and 4?

And welcome to the bit-tech forums :)

Its straight in all of them. Its just an optical illusion that your seeing. The trees in the background are farther away from left to right.

Very nice. I have to agree with OleJ on pic 4 (the wave crashing) - the horizon is a bit off.

I love #2, especially the clarity in the reflection of the sky

No the MKIII's are for sports. I set up one as a remote and the other is my hand held. Being that all the shots I have taken with them are either of high school athletes or NCAA DIV II athletes I cannot post there images online.

Oh and yes I am still building my site. I paid a designer to do it in the beginning and he built a crappy html and java nightmare. I am learning CSS by reverse engineering templates and reading a few books. I will finish it one day.

You have any other images from them? I'd rather shoot with an MKIII over a 30D any day...surely you don't use them JUST for sports.

Just curious, but what is the reason you can't post the photos? From what I understand sporting events are considered public areas, so any photo you take is fair game. I've seen countless photos from everything from Little League Baseball to College gymnastics online.

Yes I use them just for sports. I bought them just for sports. I purchased the 1Ds MKIII just for weddings and portraits. The 30D is a very capable camera that will do just as good with stuff like this as a MKIII will. The highest resolution you are going to get on a monitor is 72 ppi and I can print up to 24x30 just fine from a 30D. Its much lighter for walking around, 5 frames per second in case I see action I want to capture and has very low noise @ iso1600 for those dark situations. The 1D MKIII's rarely leave my sports cases. I ordered the 1Ds MKIII to live on a tripod in my studio and to lug to weddings. Trust me I know what I am doing. I have a very strong business model and know what I am doing. You have to figure that I take around 100K sports images a year and the 1D MKIII is rated for 300k. Thats 3 years with only from sports. The 1Ds MKIII will last me 5-6 years. My second 30D is only a year old and I have 83k click on it. The first one I bought has over 140k on it.

The NCAA has rules about posting student athletes photos on the net. I had a few in my online portfolio for a month or so and got a call from the AD at one of the colleges I shoot for and was told I had to remove the images. So I set up a meeting and we had a confernce call with the conference director and sure enough I it was aganst the rules. I could have cost those student athletes there eligibility. Luckly we came to an agreement and nothing ill came of the ordeal.

The reason I don't post the HS kids sports photos is that is my main selling point. All my comp. lost contracts to me because I do not use the kids photos for any advertising or anything. I do have an on line gallery where parents can log in and order there child's photos but only parents get the URL and they have to setup an account before they can log in. This keeps the kids safe and the parents feel more comfortable with there child's wellbeing. Some of you may remember a few months back a photographer posted a California high school's swim team photos on his website. Only to have them stolen by a gay pornography website. The kids parents sued the photographer and last I heard he was forced out of business. He did nothing wrong. He posted the images for proofing by parents and coaches like he had done for the last 5 years.
