I love the composition in number 2, I like the way the water is framed.

Vers I honestly don't. The high school sports seasons and College basket ball, baseball, softball and a few city league teams combined with wedding season in full swing have kept me from getting out with anything but a 30D when I took that winter sunset pic. I have had one of the 30D's since college and bought the other on clearance at a local camera shop for 550 when the 40D came out. I got a business loan to furnish my studio and buy some more gear like glass and monopod, magic arms, and various other things. I am doing well but it is because I know a lot of people. My grandfather owns one of the biggest construction companies in the area and has connections every where. He played a big role in getting me a lot of my contracts. (he put in a good word to the school boards for me.) I landed the 2 colleges on my own and all of my wedding work comes from advertising in the papers, bridal shops, florist, cake bakers and word of mouth. BTW I have been on a waiting list for a Ds MKIII for a bit now. I was contacted monday and told mine will ship the first of next week. So I do not have it in hand yet.

Well that's the first I've heard of it. I've had high school and college athletics photos posted in my portfolio for years. Over at Fred Miranda, you can find all sorts threads featuring youth and college sports.

I know SportsShooter.com dealt with the NCAA in early 2006 over the matter. If I'm not mistaken, the issue then was in regards to using the photos as promotional or advertising material, as opposed to including them in a personal portfolio. I believe the NCAA eventually agreed that SportsShooter.com used the images in an editorial manner, and therefore users were allowed to post the images.

Sorry for the thread hijack, though. I hope it doesn't take away from your very nice photos.

First I've heard of it as well... As long as you are not using them as promo's they are fair game, whether the NCAA tells you no or not. That being said, Can you post a few? I am thinking about picking up an MKIII instead of my planned 40D, but the AF issues put me off. Now that everything seems fixed, I am back to considerations.

If it makes you feel a bit better here are a few I pulled up on FM
    http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/search.php

I also asked a few people (since I don't shoot college basketball) and they said it is fine to post for critique as well as for portfolio purposes.

    EDIT:
12.5.2.2 Use of a Student-Athlete’s Name or Picture without Knowledge or Permission. If a student-
athlete’s name or picture appears on commercial items (e.g., T-shirts, sweatshirts, serving
trays, playing cards, posters) or is used to promote a commercial product sold by an individual or
agency without the student-athlete’s knowledge or permission, the student-athlete (or the institution
acting on behalf of the student-athlete) is required to take steps to stop such an activity in
order to retain his or her eligibility for intercollegiate athletics. Such steps are not required in
cases in which a student-athlete’s photograph is sold by an individual or agency (e.g., private photographer,
news agency) for private use. (Revised: 1/11/97, 5/12/05)
