I never spilt anything on my Compaq 2119US, but whenever I use my dad's ToughBook, I spill/drop something onto the keyboard....weird...but still works perfectly.

    Moral?
    ToughBooks are food magnets.

    Cheers,
    Mike

    The army?

They do actually use toughbooks, we had an army guy come into our school to do a presentation and he had a toughbook.

I resently got an idea, and it works. If you wrap your keyboard in plastic wrap it keeps your keyboard nice and clean, and there is another plus if you have a colored plastic wrap then it turn the wight of the keys to that color an my wrap was bue like the lights in my computer.but wrap it lightly not to tight or elts your keys cant go down far enogh to register.

or, you could just clean the keyboard every once in a while instead of sacrificing all functuality :eyebrow:

must have been about ten years ago...
spilled a can of coke all over some beast of a box with dual 5.25" drives. never actually used it again so I dunno if it still worked - half out of not knowing and half out of we had a computer with a hard drive that was a bit more functional. yes people, that computer booted off of a 5.25" floppy :thumb:

Never crashed either... probably due to the lack of microsoft

Well, not everyone needs a killer comp to do their job. If you are inputing data from a forestry study, you are just running excel or something similar, but in the mud and rain. Or here they run diagnostics on equipment in the drydocks, again moist and salty, but no need for a killer system. Or out on the oil rigs. Or if you work for the USGS. Or... on and on. IRL there are comuters everywhere and they dont need to run doom3. But they do need to be tough and stable. As for a war zone, what do you think they target artillery with? or upload mission data to and F-16 sitting out on the desert tarmac with? I think you forget that, except for gaming and graphics, most cpu power is unused, and that most apps will run on a P1 and 128megs of memory.

They have plastic covers that fit keyboards and keep them dry, look at the POS terminal next time you are at a restaurant. :duh: POS=point of sale

Reckon i can top all of this,

I always untill this day keep the side of my pc

Had a few mates around an after a few beers we desided have a laff an watch sume p0rn on dvd, i reached up 2 get this an pulled it off the shelf. droped the case, the case falls down an knocks into a beer, that emptys intself inside my rig :waah:, so im standin there lookin horrified, as winamp locks up, an windows 2k blue screens. an the power cuts....

Unpluged it all, an thers beer alover every thin, gigabyte mobo, amd athon 1900xp 384 meg of ram, an my 9200. after dryin an cleanin the cards every thin bar the mobo still works. an to this day my harddrive still has beer splashes on the side.

the moral here, is theres a time and a place for certain dvd's an its defo not with mates & beer. :eyebrow:

I once drooled into my computer while sleep deprived and switching out the RAM...

Didn't do anything, but scared me half to death.

i occasionaly clean my keyboard pull all the keys out then spend all day finding out what order they go in (yes i put them in order on my desk when i took them out, but a slight nock and wooooops)

bout like mine. a few days ago i was at work switching out some ram, i think, in a customers computer while on the phone with my girlfriend. she said something really and i started laughing then i see this huge glob of spit falling that i couldn't do anything about so i just watched it fall. after i got off the phone i tried to find where it landed and it was just gone. no trace of it anywhere, so i crossed my fingers and booted the computer, & worked fine.

another time at work i had opened a coco-cola and it spewed everywhere. at first i was mad cuz i was all sticky until i looked up and noticed 3 open computers around me. i didn't want to know if any got in them so i just left them there for another tech to work on, i wasn't gonna be the one to turn them on!

one night my old roommate downed a 1/2 a bottle of bacardi 151 on a bet. a little while later it cought up with him. he was at his computer and sprayed his sony 21" monitor, keyboard, mouse, desk, and somehow got it on his chair too.

i know i've spilled more, but can't think of it.

I dunno, seems like people will buy things because the are used by the army. Like the Hummer. Allthough ToughBooks and Hummers ARE good.

This doesn't have to do with me, but my aunt always eats at her notebook. When it wasn't working that good, i took the keyboard of. It had enough crumbs in it to form a solid donut. Her keys were only going in about 1/3 of the way. :duh:

People should just get the new laser keyboards they had on TechTV. It projects a laser onto your desk, and when one of you fingers interupt the laser, it types that key.
