Then I'm all outta ideas :p

So far? It's actually not bad. That's running, smoothly (And gaming) on 1gb ddr40, a 2.7ghz Opty, and a 3870. It's way, way better than Vista IMO.

win7 is frickin awesome. it just makes sense. UAC is actually useful. things are where you expect them to be. the "libraries" tag organization of your my documents folder is helpful, but the underlying folder structure obvious if you prefer to use it. the superbar really is super (not too sure about the jump lists though, they're kinda tedious to open). the new windows media player is lightweight and small, almost VLC-ish in UI. the new calculator is pretty sweet. it is everything vista should have been. and it's pretty.

seems way snappier than vista, but the vista i'm used to is a 6 month old bogged down install, so my perception may not be too accurate. liratheal, did you install vista drivers for your vid card, or how are you gaming? i haven't tried to install any drivers or games yet.

If you want to open a jump list quickly left click on the button and drag upwards (holding the button down).

Only if he'd believe me when I said the same thing.

    *glances at sig*

    Not a damn chance.

But my limited experience so far with Win7 was pretty positive on the whole, other than the fact that it still looks like arse in a VM since it won't run Aero. I don't dare test it on actual hardware, partly because that Mac Pro has more resources free at almost any given time than my neglected gaming rig (a powerhouse in its day) so a VM makes more sense, mostly because said gaming rig hates software changes and the only machine I could safely use to test can barely get XP drivers, never mind Vista - so Win7 is right out. Not having a network driver makes acquiring all other drivers unsurprisingly painful.

But anyways, 7 seems to be what Vista should have been from the start.

I went with the Vista versions of drivers for the GPU (ATi, 8.10), and didn't actually need any for the mobo, but I'd have used the vista versions of those too.

Everything else, I've just been installing as if it were the OS it was supposed to be installed on - No major crap-ups yet :D

don't feel too bad. i'm going to be going back to vista soon. 7 is nice, and something to look forward to, but it's a pre-beta with all the pre-beta issues. bluescreens, random apps crashing, major network problems.
