Well, I thought I had it, but upon looking through my WP collection, I couldn't find it. I'm sure it's there somewhere, but.. Sorting that mess of a folder is not a job I look forward to. Fortunately Sloth saved me any effort!

Excuse me if I highjack this thread for a min, but is there any free alternative to Ultramon that allows you to have different wallpapers on two screens which have a different resolution? Just tacking two pictures didn't have the desired effect.

 

I dont know of any apart from Ultramon...

But Ultramon is awesome, so why would you want anything else?

 

Because it's expensive, $40+ tax just for fullscreen wallpaper on the bigger screen.

 

The cheaper alternative is to use MS paint and a calculator:



1: Just make a picture as wide as both your screens (In pixels). And as tall as the tallest monitor.

2: Just re size the pictures you want and place them on the new wallpaper in relation to coordinate (0,0) which is the upper left corner of monitor 1.

Since your left monitor is number 1 it should be easy.

I am unsure how it will behave when you have a smaller left monitor placed lower than the right. Just use the trial and error method. Try placing the left wallpaper in the lower left corner. If that doesn't work just place it in the upper left. In a worst case scenario you have to make a picture that is as tall as the tallest monitor plus the difference in height between the two monitors.(See step 1)

If you have monitor 1 to the right you need to keep in mind that the wallpaper will always span to the right in relation to the number on the display, not physical position.

3: Set the picture as wallpaper as usual and set it to "tile". This is exactly how Ultramon does it. The only difference is that ultramon will calculate everything for you.



If you want it explained further I can write up a proper guide on it. It's easier than it sounds, but it can be a pain if you change wallpapers very often. (Although, if you make a template it's easy)

Display Fusion will allow you to have different wallpapers on different size monitors and it's free. You can buy the Pro version to get other features that are available in Ultramon. Ultramon is still the best though.
