On my main computer, I chose the option to not save anything and install a clean copy. When I got to the step to sign in with my Microsoft account, I clicked the "Skip this step" option and just loaded up a local profile. I'm surprised so many people are having problems. Either I was extraordinarily lucky, or people are making this more difficult than it should be. I even have an NVidia GTX 750ti running two monitors, and it immediately picked up both monitors before I downloaded the drivers. On my media PC, I just went with the vanilla upgrade route and kept everything intact. It took 15-20 minutes and everything worked perfectly. I wonder why so many people are running into problems?
Apparently one of my rigs isn't compatible with win10 because it has a 2xXeon CPU's and a Quadro NVS 285 GPU
Indeed. I had no issues whatsoever. Clean install and activation happened automatically, no need to use my live account. This is extraordinarily un Microsoft with a new OS launch; I still have the scars from ME, XP, Vista etc. Early gripes, why not give back the customization options of start that were present with xp and 7, such as not highlighting new programs. Also Windows update, they removed the option to manually download, why? Unless I am missing something. Shame to use 8's splash screen for 10. These bits aside, seems nice and shiny.
No key needed with the media creation tool and running great on my AMD 6600K desktop, I went for a clean install from download to install I would say 1-2 hours. So tempted now to put this on my gaming pc even though I wasn't, all my Steam. Origin and GOG are installed on other drives. The only problems going to be Uplay, kaspersky and skygo. Quick backup of saved games and then do another clean install maybe. Also able to access my purchased content through Chrome but keeping edge as my default browser.
Just downloaded the Kaspersky trial and it now works fine thanks. Now I am installing on gaming PC at 75%
If you think you have problems upgrading to Windows 10 then spare a thought for this poor guy. Sauce.
Lol well spent want to knew mine at all. But will leave it for a few months till when all the bugs have been sorted Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
So if you do a clean install with bootable media using the media creation tool from the OS on the machine you are planning to upgrade it will activate and issue a key with no problems? The upgrade from the windows update doesnt work for me and the in place upgrade from the media tool doesnt work so I have to roll back to 8.1. It's only on my 2nd machine but fairly modern (Ivy K).
Installed ok on main pc, Kaspersky now works fine, silverlight reinstalled and skygo working fine in internet explorer. Updated the AMD driver and APU working fine, Nvidia driver or its utility didn't install fiirst time but after a reboot it did.
decided to update my laptop to see how it went and had some real issues. Updated fine but when it went to sleep/hibernation it wouldnt bring the screen back up, even after a reboot. had to re install a clean copy from recovery to get it working...... and it did it again! this time I recovery back to first load and immediately disabled the power options. Just putting all my software back on. And the good news is, my pirate version of W7 ultimate is now an activated W10 pro with no nagging non genuine stuff. Seems they are allowing the upgrade! I think I will hold off updating my main rig for a bit though!
is anybody else having trouble with sleep/hibernation i usually put my pc to sleep but since windows 10 upgrade it seems to shut down but fire back up?
I don't have any media to use to creation tool and the work around to force it from Reddit doesn't work for me so guess I'll have to wait.
I had an issue where Windows 10 seemed to be using too much of my system memory. Looked like a memory leak. I did some googling, found a fix which was related to windows 8/8.1 Disable NDU.sys via regedit and my system memory usage is looking more normal. Disabling the NDU.sys does not appear to effect my system performance what so ever.
If you are just doing an upgrade you don't need any removable media to use the tool, it just downloads to your HDD and runs from there.
Mine was the opposite. would shut down and NOT wake up. Because we are all squeaky clean. cant say it matters if MS dont care and allow the upgrade.
