hi you guys @ bit-tech first of all, i’ll give you a little introduction of myself. My name is Mario, I’m 20 years old and come from austria. I started casemodding about two years ago with a Half-Life ² - casemod, which brought me Corsair as sponsor. At this line of text i want to thanks Corsair for all the support I got from them... Thank you! May anyone reminds me, i was here at bit-tech for the time of the project log of the HL²-case. This is only my new nick (the old one was "mario_cell"). The reason I start to mod a new case is, that my laptop will die in a few weeks (thats my view of it). So there has to be a second computer, which will take place in my flat. Here a little overview: Processor: INTEL Core2Quad Q6600 Graphics card: EVGA e-GeForce 9800GT Black Pearl 512MB RAM: CORSAIR Dominator 2x1GB 1066MHz HDD: SAMSUNG 250GB (2,5”) DVD-Writer: SONY AD-7670S Slim-Line Slot-In DVD-Writer For high quality graphics-gaming, (I know,) it’s not the best configuration, but for my tasks (gaming, watching DVD, Photoshop, CorelDRAW) it fits in every point All in all it should be more touched on the side of a HTPC instead of a gaming-rig. Because my last case had those rusty and dirty look, i decided to make something different. It should have a futuristic touched theme. All of the cables will be hosed into jack plugs. A nice carbon sleeving rounds the whole thing up. Another thing to mention is that I will install a water cooling system in the case. But only the Q6600 will be liquid cooled, cause there will be only a single-radiator in the top of the case. The graphics card has it’s own fan, which will hopefully do its job as best as it can. The fans, temperature and the flow will be controlled and monitored by a Matrix Orbital MX6 VF-Display. I've written some scripts, to switch for example a red LED on, if theres the core-temp goes above 25°C. After reading this long text you may want to see some pictures I can serve you only a concept-drawing I did last week in CorelDRAW. I wrote this first post to introduce myself and give you a little view in my next case. Pictures will be shown on Wednesday, where I hope to hold the shuttle in my arms I will keep this log first as a scratch-build, hope this will change this week Have a nice day guys
If it more for htpc why not buy a separate mb and case like these http://www.overclock.co.uk/product/...A-Sound-Socket-775-mATX-Motherboard_7404.html http://www.overclock.co.uk/product/...001BNS-HT-Black-Gaming-Cube,-No-PSU_5235.html would work out the same price as the shuttle case. great project will be watching this mod
@ all thx for your words @honyin i searched long for the right barebone, but only the P2 satisfied me with the placement of the single components, but thx for your tip. and the case you showed me is a little "too big" for me little update: my shuttle will arrive today, so this evening there are the first pics in here
yes i love them too, very nice concept and design in those 5minutes i got a call from the IT-shop. My HDD arrived also and my DVD-drive should also come along this week.
got a first little question for ya guys. i ordered this waterblock for my intel-sweety i chose this one here and i like those so much... but i'm afraid those 13mm-tubes would look like s**t in such a little barebone. may i chose the normal fittings with 10/8-tubes... whats your opionion of this?
Those ones look pretty good, the AlphaCool ones are pretty good also, while your at it check out Koolance and Bitspower.
thx for the hint. bitspower is a little bit too expensive i think. i won't pay around 8€ for one 90°-fitting. but anyway they are still very nice to look at. other question @ u guys... found this model of my faved 9800GT click for a 100 bucks it could be mine. but i'm afraid of cooling a cpu and a graphics card with only one single-fan-radiator... i think the temperature of the water will be rise a huge amount. what do you think about it? someone who runs such a system?
Personally I would recommend a 240mm radiator as a minimum for any setup, especially if you are gaming and overclocking. However this is going to be a HTPC so you won't be overclocking or doing heavy gaming so there is no necessity to get the extra card for SLI. I think you could easily run the Q6600 and the 9800GT off of a single radiator, shouldn't be a problem, just make sure you use a duel thickness radiator like a HWLabs Black Ice Extreme and not a really thin one like the HWLabs Stealth. Just for some extra info MrBean is running 2 Intel Xeon 5430's @ 3GHZ and an ATI Radeon HD4870X2 off of a single 240mm radiator in his Blackbird mod. I like the design very much! I'm a fan of Shuttles and anything SFF, so I'll definitely be watching closely.
a big thank u for the info no i'm not doing any overclocking with this one. but it's good to hear that it's possible to run it with only a single radiator. the thickness of mine is 30mm, its from Magicool. @all bad news... my dad has taken our Sony Alpha to his work... i'll get it back this weekend.... sry but some info. from the shuttle there's only the sceleton left. and because i'm at work until friday, i'm not able to do smth else on it... hope you'll forgive me
