With a budget under £100 what's the best set to go for? Been running a 5.1 setup but i don't have means to sit them properly anymore and one speaker has stopped working. Time for a more simple 2.1 setup.
Actually. as just one of my 5.1 speakers is not working. Would i be just as well plugging just the front left and front right speakers in to my sub and selecting 2.1 in my audio control panel?
My advice, get a decent pair of 2.0-speakers. Most 2.0 bass-reflex speakers in the £100 pricerange wipe the floor with a 2.1-system anyways. Surround in general is overrated, especially if you don't have a big room setup for the purpose of listening to surround-sound.
Bit out of my price range at £175 or so lol thinking more around the £60~ mark Cash is not flowing so great right now with other expenses
for PC speakers Corsair seems to come out tops in the reviews. as set of hifi active speakers would be slightly better on the sound quality. All for not if you just want load bass naturally krk-rokit-powered-rp5-g2-5-bi-amped-powered-studio-monitor Some ppl here recommended these as being much better then any PC speakers. They even get good HiFi reviews I would recommend checking some reviews as I do not have personal experience with them myself.
Have a look at this there are a couple in your price range like the corsair SP2200, Logitech Z623, or the slightly over budget Sony SRS DB500 Linky Or as someone has said get some decent 2.0 set maybe an amp if you have a decent sound card with the relevant connections
A 4-5" bass-driver within a bass-reflex speaker will give you exactly that - bass. And the sound is much better aswell then you can get out of those 2.1-systems. Having a seperate sub with a 4-5" bass-driver doesn't work magically better.
Have you considered these? http://www.acoustic-energy.co.uk/Default.aspx?pagename=Aego-M-loudspeaker I purchased them recently and they're amazing for the money. Having used the cosairs speakers, these blow them away on sound and price.
I can second this, got a set of these second hand and they are really good. *Solid* metal satellite speakers, not cheap plastic and the bass is great also. My GF has the older model and they are also great.
I've a pair of these as part of my studio setup, and I use them for general gaming audio too. They're excellent, but pretty pricey for simple computer speakers...! Plus - to get the best out of them, you need to be running an audio card that spits out a balanced output (a production card or the like, or just a balanced DAC). Presented with the same problem and a lower budget, I'd go for a decent pair of non-monitor speakers, as discussed by others in this very thread
Thirded. And if you search older threads, you'll find that there are plenty of other advocates here too.
what about the creative T3130?? decent reviews and under £40 from scan? Edit: or even the Creative T3300 which under £50
You could go for one of the Microlab offerings, the 5C and 6C around £60 and £70 respectively and sound quite good for the money.
