    My additional 2c:

I like him because he's a genuinely talented musician. No dressing it up, no fancy stage effects, even his studio albums are simple and effective. Live, he stands on the stage in jeans and a t-shirt, expressing himself fully with a guitar and his voice. Musicians like that are getting to be few and far between these days. Yes, he's definately Knopfler inspired - I've been a Dire Straits (spelling! ;)) and Mark K fan all my life, and that's definately one of the reasons I like Mayer so much. Add in a little Clapton, a little Hendrix and you've got a sure winner with me at least. His voice seems to be where we disagree a little. It may be that particular live performance that's making you think he sounds like an idiot, but he does have one heck of an effortlessly good singing voice. And I've commented before about how good it is live as well as on the studio albums because he never really sings a song the same way twice - his singing style is more about complementing the mood in the room at the time, so he might sing "Slow Dancing" in a lower, calmer tone with less pitch change and what I call "excited notes" just like the studio version if he's playing a small venue to only a few hundred in the audience - and when he's playing to thousands like in that concert in L.A, he sings and plays it with a little more flair.

Meh, it's all about personal taste. He's right up there in my "musicians who make me feel their music" list. That's not gonna be the case for everyone though.

It boils down to personal preference, yeh... I suppose my perception of him is not helped by his Mark K. tones... I think Dire Straits (spelled correctly now, I think ;) )made one good song (Once upon a time in the west, in case you want to know). Might be due to my dad loving them so muhc though... :p

    Now listening to:
Hellyeah - Stand or Walk Away

For someone that old, Chad Grey is surpisingly angsty (he's almost 40). But he's got one hell of a voice, and as a band, Hellyeah is the best of MudVayne mixed with a healthy dose of Pantera... and that makes me happy.
