decided to capitalise on my accidental 6:30 pm to 3am nap by getting an early start on painting my mother's spare room. Finished ! my back is killing me but I decided to just get it done as I have a feeling I won't be able to move after I sleep next lol.

So the jeans I was hoping to fit into with all this cycling still don't fit me. Why is this awesome?

BECAUSE THEY WON'T FIT OVER MY BULGING QUADS.

Back around Christmas they went up the legs fine, but the zipper only went up halfway before it nope'd. Now I can't even entertain the idea of getting them that high. I wish I took some measurements, but I suspect I have gained a good inch and half on each leg (calves and quads), maybe even 2. Who needs squats.

Dem pedal gainz! Yeah generally I have to go one size higher than my waist so my quads will fit in, also any dreams you may have nurtured of being some weird hipster kid are gone Straight leg or loose cut only, an belts, always belts!

Took the car to the local VW place at lunch to see the bodyshop people there. turns out my two random rust patches are both covered under warranty which is always a pleasant surprise.

Wow. Not only have I worked my backside off painting my mother's spare room but I actually went out, alone, on the train ! I will admit I was bricking it, and I had to take 50mg of pregabalin because my ecig battery ran out but I did it ! And it's hot. Really, really hot. The wind was freezing yesterday so I went out in a bloody jacket and got cooked. Found a nice coffee shop in Chi to chill at whilst my wheel was being built..

    And got my reward :D

Assuming all goes well I should have the hearing back in my left ear and potentially improved hearing in my right. If it doesn’t then I’ll have a perforated eardrum

After five, ish, years of ownership I've finally got the stupid vanity plate off my RS.

Bye bye T8 FRS, hello generic numberplate!

I know that feeling. As an aspie with a headphone obsession I get lots of ear infections. They are usually the same type (in the walls of my ear lining) but I have the same meds for all. It's like this ear ***** that sprays something that stinks like vinegar. And it clogs your ears to the point you can hardly hear anything. Then, a few days later when the infection has gone I pop my ears and wow, everything sounds really loud :D

Just got my car serviced at 20k miles by the main dealer (Part of lease, so "free").

According to the report, everything is fine, except that I've used 1mm of tread from the front tyres - in ten thousand miles?.
Oddly, the offside rear has gained 0.5mm tread! :jawdrop:

Convinced my phone to install an update to May 1st Android Security Patch Level... while still in the month of May. There's a first for everything, I guess!

Must be like my old DS4 that got an advisory on its 2016 MOT for front pads & discs, but an all clear on it's 2017 MOT... I didn't do anything to it, so either motor fairy's came along in the night and added material to my pads and de-pitted my discs, or MOT garages are bunch of con artists that give false advisories in the hope you'll cough up some cash.

    I know what I think.

Top tip: take your car to the local council MOT centre; a legal wrinkle means they have to be open to the public despite being set up for testing public transport and council vehicles, but they don't do any work - meaning they have absolutely zero incentive to make problems up. If work is needed, take it to your favourite garage then back to the council test centre and they'll usually retest at a discount or even for free.

Even MOT testers I like do this. I suspect it's boss mandated. I took the Mundaneo to my preferred test centre a few years back and got some spiel about the handbrake cable. Not had that spiel since. Although I did start taking a look at the advisories while it was on the ramp - After taking the RS there they got a lot more friendly. Possibly because they realised I know a little bit, but more likely because they realised I like to do stuff myself where possible and like to see what the problem is.

It comes down to the garage really. My local Volvo dealer has tried to convince my wife that all sorts of things "needed doing soon", implying she may as well get it booked in ( like verbatim - "There's only 4mm of tread left on your tyres so they'll need doing soon, did you want to book that in?"). They settled down a bit once they realised that she knows a thing or two about cars, but we won't be taking it back there again in favour of a local specialist anyway due to these instances.

BMW on the other hand I've found to be very good - however on many occasions I've heard from the service managers that the MOT test people are unaffiliated with the garage, so that would make sense if they have no skin in the game. One one occasion my wife's car failed on the front wipers not clearing the windscreen well enough - the service manager was visibly agitated by this (because they were both of the opinion that it was plenty clear and the tester was being an obstinate asshat) and comped a set of wipers in the end.

There's a local garage chain in the Nottingham area that I'd also trust, I've taken a couple cars there over the years - I let the dealer do it if MOT time matches service time, and otherwise take it to the local place.

I've heard plenty of horror stories from mates about MOT tests at the likes of Kwik Fit, Halfords et al though. Wouldn't touch them.
