one of the phenom II x6s such as the 1100T would probably be the best bet

Why will he only use AMD? He would be far better off going for an I5 2500K

Well i just spoke to him and he would go intel for gaming, he was over the moon when i mentioned the 1100t with 6 cores, he thought it would be better than the 2600k for gaming as its got 6 cores :duh::nono:.....but he poss will go 2500k or 2600k, he just games and does naff all else :D...i think he is more worried about bottleneck lol
    cheers matey

PII X4 980 is the best for gaming (more or less going to be on par with a 2500k, it's not spectacularly better), not much else though (assuming overclocking to the max)

Get a 2500k. It'll cost (including motherboard)about £260 instead of £160 but should easily last 2/3 years longer than an 955 at good levels of performance and I'm guessing your friend doesn't want to upgrade often.

If he must go AMD, for gaming, a Phenom 2 980 BE would be the best bet. Most games won't touch 6 cores so they just go to waste. A 980 will clock to around 4.2Ghz if you're brave with the volts.

A 2500K would be even better purely for gaming.
