Windows What's the best Space Game out there!

Ah... Elite on the ol' Speccy... complete with the Lenslok thing. Brings a tear to my eye.

 

Guess I'm the only 'X' fan here then.

multiplayer.. probably allegiance and freelancer- I dunno if guys still play allegiance but there was a server up after they shut down the official

you need a good joystick to really master it though.. it had good space physics

 

wing Commander IV

 

Freespace 2 isn't just one of the best space games I've ever played, its one of the best games I've ever played bar none.

Looked absolutely amazing - massive colourful nebulas, huge capital ship to capital ship beam lasers, and hundreds of fighters streaming around in between.

Wonderful controls - if you have a joystick (or maybe an Xbox gamepad would work), and such a good story.

Ah, good times.

 

Conquest: Frontier Wars is great if you don't mind an RTS.

Aww man I used to love Elite, remember spending entire days playing Frontier aswell, remember cacking my pants when I came across a thargoid lol, oh to be young

Is Elite 4 ever coming out? I remember reading about it back when I was on dialup, seem to recall it said on the website coming November 2002 haha

 

Elite 4... it's still in the making, apparently (link). However, there is a tech demo on YouTube. Also, there's some stuff about the makings of the YouTube video here.

Preferably with the fx mod and the point defense systems mod.

Crikey, I played that game for months and months and months as a teenager all those years ago. Awesome fun, especially the little mini-games such as the arcade shooter you could play in bars.
