I used to be all for AMD, but recently, I have switched over to Intel stuff for my main rig.

Intel is better for my main rig, faster more responsive, etc.

But for other stuff, like cost, if you wanna maintain extra crunchers, or make a cluster at home and stuff like that, go with AMD.

but surely for the cost you save by buying an AMD equivalent you could then overclock it and boom...it is now much much faster than the intel and have cash to spend on other stuff.

    Currently, I have the following:

    Athlon XP 2500+ @ 2500Mhz
    Athlon XP 1700+ @ stock
    Athlon Thunderbird 1000 @ 1100Mhz
    Athlon Thunderbird 1333 (not running)
    Duron 800 @ stock
    Pentium III 733 Speed Step @ 733/600Mhz

I'm quite possibly looking at getting a P3 based system at some point for running as a(nother) file server.

Been 6 years since I bought intel (for my own use and disregarding 2nd hand machines I've pciked up etc)... however were I bying a new PC it would actually probably be an intel at the moment.

Next likely mobo and cpu purchase some time next year will probably be AMD64, though.

    Another vote for AMD...
    1800 (sig)
    1700 (not running)
    1.33 t/bird @ 1ghz
    k6 500mhz

AMD are so much cheaper tho not quite as fast as high end pentiums, but for a low budget, can't beat em!

AMD 2400+ at the moment, though I'm tempted to try an Intel system to see how well they compare in use.

AMD all the way, but only cos I'm on a budget. If I had the cash I'd shell out on an uber-fast P4.

What I currently have in "the pile".

Intel: 2.4P4 - 1.7P4 - Lots of smaller CPUs 66mhz up to the first generation 1.5P4

AMD:1700+, 2400+, Lots of smaller CPUs from 300 up to 500mhz

Cyrix: A few smaller CPUs (sub - 500mhz)

IBM: A few smaller CPUs (sub - 500mhz)

I think I have a few other brands under 500mhz but can't remember for sure.
