Hi guys, I would like to Crossfire with two HD5770s however I understand to see a benefit with this I would need a bigger monitor than the current 1378x760 screen I have.

Note I will only be using one screen and not dual screen.

I'm looking for a good monitor that will allow me to see benefits from crossfire. My price range is £100-150

    All TFT screens are LCD.

If you can get the IPS231P (I think that's the name), its even better. It has the exact same panel, but a VERY good stand.

Depends on the game (same for SLI).
Wait... a sec You have a Geforce not a Radeon.... you need 2 Nvidia GPU's to have SLI, or 2x Radeon cards to do Crossfire, you can't mix Nvidia and AMD/ATI cards.

    That aside:
Usually games designed for Crossfire and/or SLI support will show a nice performance increase, else it might provide barely anything, or 0 performance increase.

If you really want to see Crossfire/SLI shine you have to look at 2560 x 1440 and up resolutions screen, but those are really out of your budget, like more than 500£, over budget :)

My GTX 260 is starting to struggle in games (time for upgrade, patiently waiting for Nvidia next GPU's and AMD 7000 series expected to be release really soon), and I have a 1920x1200 monitor. So, I don't think SLI/Crossfire is worth-it in your case.

hi thanks man, i actually have a couple of rigs, so i got nvidia and ati. If for example I have two 1900x1080 screens, can these be combined to make bigger resolution for crossfire?

and if i have two monitors how do i get a game to play on both, do i need more hardware or will ati software do it automatically?

You don't want to game on 2 screens. You'll have a thick black bezel right down your line of sight. Not pretty or helpful lol

Oh and 2 5770s won't handle 2 screens for gaming anyway, just not enough raw grunt. 1920x1200 is really the limit of being playable and still being able to turn up the eye candy using 2 5770s.

As Blazza said, the IPS231P is probably the best within your budget. I have one and it is very very good. Bright colours, deep blacks and no ghosting.

yes thanks man, its a very good monitor. But I can stretch my budget for a one off monitor that will really make the most of crossfire, not just for 5770s but upgrading down the line also

You'd need £300+ for a decent monitor with a higher resolution. And it'll only jump from 1920x1080 to 1920x1200. ANy higher than that is going to cost a lot of money. And 2 5770s won't stand a chance.

There isn't really a good reoslution for CrossFire. It depends on which cards are being CrossFired, in your case 1920x1080 is the optimum. You'll only get about 30FPS in BF3 on ultra.

Just one little problem. Recently, I think the IPS231P has been discontinued recently, and are now quite difficult to find in you budget in the UK.

Damn that sucks for everyone it's a great monitor. Best to look around, and if a place has it for sale just hope they have stock. I know the place I bought my complete rig from says 3-4 days to get it in stock. That is because they dont stock a large amount of them at all.

Luckily I had the last one they had in stock at the time.

Why is your heart so set on crossfire? Buy the best monitor you can and then if your GPU isn't good enough go cf until you can get one decent card.
